OT: Double Stroller

Ok - I need some advice...we are expecting a baby early Feb. dd will be 2 years old when this baby arrives. My first instinct is to go out and buy a double stroller, but now I am wondering if it is worth the money!? DD is very active and loves to walk - which is why I thought I better get that double stroller to "contain" her while we are out but even now if we go to the mall or something she will start in the stroller but will want out w/in 20 minutes. I am a person that loves to go for walks and the kids of course will go with me...so is it worth it just for the walks?? ugh!

So, how many of you value your double stroller or is it just a waste of money??? Any advice is welcomed!

thanks - ld

Babies R Us is now carrying a new sit and stand stroller called a Caboose. It has a stoller that takes any infant seat and a little jump seat and standing platform in the back for a larger child. The reviews on the website read almost exactly like your post.

Good luck on your quest for the perfect stroller!

Speaking on behalf of a friend

My good friend has two little boys 2.5 and 1.5..she also said she'd never use the stroller, but now that she has it, she loves it! its a hunk to load and haul, but worth it. we go to the museum a lot and she keeps the boys in it when we cross the street, go in to the kids area, etc. also makes a good thing to hold all the junk! she has one htat has the sit up seat in the front and the back seat can be sat up or laid down. if needed she can put two kisd in the back part when its laying down. comes in handy when either of us is babysitting and has an extra kid. I don't have one...yet...waiting to see how our fostering situation goes, but have had my eye for them at once upon a child!

Inglesina - 2005 Swift Double 1775NN1 in Navy with FREE RAIN SHIELD

I got this stroller (2004 version) last year when my son came home at 8 months and DD was 31 months....LOVE IT!!!

It is lightweight, folds easily, and even as a side by side...it is small enough to use at the mall or in stores. We go to Disney often and it is a lifesaver....LOVE IT!

We had a graco tandum...hated it! Bulky and hard to use...

LOVE THIS STROLLER...

i have the deluxe sit n stand. my kids are 3 years apart and even though we had virtually stopped using a stroller when the baby arrived, my son wanted the option of riding when his sister was. the sit n stand is perfect!

We have a combi and a peg perago double strollers, the combi is very light weight. the combi is side by side and the peg is front and back. But we also have single strollers, and I tend to use that more often! LOL

Also a site has people who listed items that they are done with for others to have for free and just pay shipping, so pm me and I can give you that site, it has other adoptive couples looking to pass on items.
God Bless,
Summer

thanks for asking about this. Watching folks go thru the mall with double strollers, I'm trying to figure out which is better, the double wide or the long one. the wide one had a heck of a time going thru aisles that frankly don't meet the federal access rules, but the long one seemed like trying to shop with an aircraft carrier. any ideas?

I have a double stroller. We have a Chicco Velocita. We chose this one because it is lightweight and rather compact. It doesn't take up much truck space. Our main issue with the tandem stroller was the space issue. The tandem would not fit in our car and would take up nearly all the cargo space in the SUV. We wanted a stroller that would fit in both vehicles. The Velocita is a side by side stroller and is a tight fit when going out. I figure it is slightly wider than a wheelchair. I have much more empathy for people that use wheelchairs now. I assumed that most businesses have complied with making sure they were handicap accessible and have found out it’s not true. There have been some restaurants and stores that I have not been able to go into because the stroller barely or did not fit through the doors. Then there are those places where once we’re inside there is no room to maneuver about. I really wish I had a tandem in places like that. I guess that’s why some of the articles I’ve read recommend having more than one stroller for different uses. I’m still thinking about buying a tandem stroller because I need less help getting through doors. I've had to depend on the kindness of strangers more than I feel is necessary.

There is also an age range depending on what type of stroller you get. The child has to be 6 months old to use the Velocita and most of the tandems will accommodate one or two infant carriers.

We're doing the double stroller dance here as well. Babe #3 is coming at the end of March/ beginning of April. H will be 19mos then and while she's quite the toddler now, even then I don't think I'd feel comfortable having her "running free," KWIM?

Anyway, we've narrowed it down to a tandem. Mostly because I need it to hold an infant over the summer while we head to J's games, practices and swim lessons. I've been doing research on the best one to get by reading forum posts, on-line reviews adn by actually trying them out in stores. I think we're getting a Graco Dup Glider. It's in our price range, fold decently (no stroller is actually EASY to fold ) and when we tried it out with H in the front seat at the store, more manuverable than the others we tried.

It's hard because it's an expensive purchase that I know I won't get the use out of they way I have my single strollers. BUT, I also know that I need to be able to transport 2 little ones (not to mention wrangling a big kid) by myself at times so it will be a necessity.

Good luck in your decision and let us know what you come up with!

Blessings,
Jenny

If you are going to buy a stroller anyway, we noticed that they are not that much more expensive than buying a single. We have the Jeep, and with the boys only being 2 1/2 months apart, there was a time that Bear was still in the Graco snug-ride car seat, but Bug had already graduated to the big boy car seat. The snug-ride was designed to fit on the back seat of the Jeep model.

The only thing I have heard about the side by side is that it is sometimes difficult to get them thru doors and isles of some stores. Then again, some stores are hard to get a single stroller thru. I call them "not stroller friendly" and no longer shop there!

We purchased the Peg Prego Twin Aria when our newborn arrived. Our daughter was 2 at the time. I love it. It is light weight and doesn't take up that much space in my van. I also have two single strollers...Evenflo travel system and a Combi savvy. When I dare to shop or walk by myself, I use the Twin. If my husband is going, we usually take the two especially right now. They pack the mall with so much stuff that it is difficult for me to manuver the single stroller.

Combi has the new twin savvy which the combi carseat can fit.

I decided to go ahead and get the "caboose" from Babies R Us that Jen recommended...it just seemed that the others I looked at would be too confining for dd. Let's just hope I get good use out of it! Thanks again for all your input!

We have a Graco duo glider and it is great. Not too havy, easy to steer once you get the hang of it and easy to fold and unfold.

It is in the basement right now, as our 3 year old loves to walk and the baby is in a jeep umbrella stroller.

We will be using it again when the new babe makes an appearance next May.
