Anyone younger than 25 doing a domestic adoption?

Hi! DH and I are looking into domestic adoption, and it seems like most agencies ask that the adoptive parents be at least 25. Has anyone done this who's younger than 25? DH and I are 22. He's in the USAF, so we are financially stable, and have been married 3.5 years now, and are soooo ready for a child! If you're younger than 25, and used an agency that works with people in all states, I would love to hear from you! Thanks!

My dh and I were both under 25 the first time we adopted. I was 23 and dh was 25. We are from Canada and went through an agency in MD. The second time around we went through an agency in Fl. This time, I was 26 and dh was 28. It definately can be done you just may need to look around a little bit more for more open agencies. There are TONNES of advantages to being young.

Dh was 24 and I was 29 when we signed on last year; we're also military. It can be done you just have to look around.

I was 24 hubby 26 adopted domestically with Ohio agencey. I think you had to be married at least 1 or 2 years but no age requirements.

We went through our state agency and I was 22 and dh 23 when we started. I know they say they like to hear you are at least 25. Perhaps there is a bit more maturity after turning 25 (insurance decreses etc..for reasons along those lines, so perhaps there's some truth to that). I was ready earlier though and had my first son placed when I was almost 24.

Hello!!

Wow, i have been looking for others that are young too! My dh and i are also both 22, been married for 3.5 years (did you get married in June 2002 too?). We will both be 23 in March and May, and have come across a lot of slack for being young. BUT, there are lots of agencies that do accept younger people AND you can even do international adoption in certain countries and agencies (Guatemala, Russia, and Vietnam do not have age reqt, but some agencies have thier own) The US just says that one person has to be over 21 to adopt internationally. We didn't know this, everyone told us you had to be 25, until i looked it up and talked to more people about it. We have found some agencies also for Domestic Adoption (PM me and I will let you know some of them, we are in TX). It is very frustrating to get turned down though because of age, I know, i have been there. DH and I have stable careers, own our home, and are financially stable (although cannot afford $30,000 for international adoption). We have been trying since we got married, and being married so young, had no idea we would have trouble!! Let me know if you have any questions for me!!

Natalie
