m&ms, milk duds and kit kat - oh my

OK BIG PROBLEM HERE!!!

All 5 of my kids went trick-or-treating on Monday and we have TONS of candy laying all over the house. Now my kids like chocolate but they don't LOVE it like their mother does

Anyway, combine this with PMS and I am consuming an extra 5,000 calories a day to add to the already 10 lbs I have gained since Addy came home a year ago

Maybe I'll just solve the whole problem and go pbuy bigger pants. This is scaring me

Martha

There is no law that says that you can't throw candy away. Have the kids choose 2 or 3 pieces to keep and toss the rest (pour something gross on it so you're not tempted to dumpster dive). You don't need it, the kids don't need it and your dentist will thank you.

Here is some dieting advice,
Calories down't count if you eat standing up. They also don't count if it's a holiday OR holiday candy. Halloween is a holiday of sorts, so the calories don't count. Calories don't count if you are stressed out or PMS-ing. They don't count if you consume them while standing next to someone bigger than you. Just be careful of those dieting rules and you will be ok.....

LOL Martha - Peering at the wastepaper basket to the immediate right of my computer keyboard, I count SEVEN trick-or-treat mini-sized Milk Duds boxes in there... all empty of course.

DH doesn't like Milk Duds.
Emma doesn't eat candy (yet).
The cat - not a chocolate fan.

*urp*

'Scuse me while I go floss the caramel out from between my molars -

(I have no actual advice or anything here, just commiseration!)

Ok, here are a bunch of Weight Watchers tricks:

1. Start sewing (or knitting, or needlepointing). If you have some project in your hand you won't want to get chocolate all over them.

2. Every time the candy calls you, brush your teeth. Or chew gum.

3. Resolve not to eat unless you're sitting at the dining table. No eating standing up, over the sink, while you're watching television or on the computer.

Good luck!

I never knew and am so relieved! *LOL* Now I will toss out my philosphy of "hurry up and eat it all (get it over with) so that we can get back to our regularly scheduled diet".

Um. . . I might have the same problem

I really do have a solution to this. If you eat only candy and try to avoid candy with protein, you will actually lose weight! Really, no joke! I have lost 3 pounds since Halloween and the only thing even approaching a meal I had is a smoothie. I know I have eaten a bag of kit kats, a bag of junior mints and a bag of milk duds and that was just my candy. It does not even include the candy I have scrounged around the office for.

Some may suggest that this may not be healthy, but I am not so sure. The other bonus is when I eat like this I am wide awake (some might say jittery) and I can fall asleep at the drop of the hat. I even fell right back to sleep after my 2 tootie roll pops at 3 am.

Donate it

We've donated a bunch of our Halloween candy to the Judson Center. They use if for the holiday parties for families in need...It's not completely altruistic...I've saved my waistline, but I helped others have a happy holiday.

more dieting tips:
-those small candy bars have many fewer calories than the large bars, so go ahead and eat em up.

-the quicker they're consumed, the less time you have to feel bad about having them tempt you.

-chew each bite at least 20 times to burn calories

these are just a few of my favs. we have a bowl of dots, sweetarts, kit kats, butterfingers, lemonheads (nostalgic flashback so I had to have them), reeses etc on the fridge.

oh and spaypets, it _is_ against the law to throw candy away here in glendale and I'm sure many other communities (I know I'm right-dad was a reserve cop). Not to mention the moral issues involved in wasting food. The only ethical disposal of yummy candy is to eat it, imho

Ok, ok, ultimate dieting tip. Put all candy, cookies, crackers etc. in the freezer, so they don't go stale (and so you're not tempted to eat them to keep them from going stale).

Jen

Jen - Interesting diet concept. Maybe you could do an info-mercial and sell bags of candy for three easy payments of 39.99 amd make millions.

Oh and Lisa, thanks for filling us in on the law - I was pretty sure I would be risking some serious jail time if I threw any of this stuff away

LOL,
And I will throw it away. I'm tossing my dd's candy tonight (sheer lazyness is why I haven't done it yet).

Honestly, I had my monthly weigh in this week and if I don't take control of myself I'm going to have to start paying Weight Watchers again!

Here I was thinking you'd do something creative with it....like build a turkey sculpture out of it for the office party...
