OT: Play dough rec's?

Curious if any of you have a good play dough recommendation. I've seen many sets or toy combos for play dough, but memories of my own play dough childhood have me wondering if some are better than others. I know I can make my own and gather things around the house for tools and impressions, but I'm lazy.

Anyother clay rec's for toddlers. I won't be using fimo or sculpy with babe for a few years yet since they are polymer clays.

We use Play D'oh brand.... it doesn't stain, when it dries you can sweep it off the floor and it takes Mummy and Mama down the memory lane of scents!

I have been using a few small containers of gymboree's brand of play clay, needles to say it's the pits, we used it once and it's already dried out! So I was hesitant to invest money, and prescious storage space, to PlayDoh. But, I just now opened a small container of PlayDoh that babe got as a party favor, and oh my, it's so much better, creamy, and that smell. Memory lane indeed. I guess I'll be shopping tomorrow.

sugar'smama, We also use the Play-Doh brand; you can get the 12 pack for very inexpensive, small containers. When my dd was two, the volcano island and little farm where she could push the eggs she made down the chute were favorites for her. And now, they have so many more cool colors than when I was a kid. Have fun shopping.

DD likes playing with Crayola's clay -- it dries out but it doesn't stick to the carpet the way Play Doh can. We also use play doh, love the smell!

hey, what age can they start playing with playdoh, without eating most of it? I know dd isn't quite old enough yet I think, since she still eats crayons.

Lisa, Ha, I think it depends on the kid. My dd never attempted to put a single thing in her mouth and loved play doh at 16 months. My son, on the other hand, I suspect, might not be able to play with doh without eating it until about age 4.

As a former kindergarten paste eater (if they don't want you to eat it why do they flavor it with wintergreen?), I can second that it really depends on the kid. DD also doesn't eat innappropriate things (such a good thing about adoption, they don't inherit all your horrible traits).

I just bought DS Play-Doh yesterday! I noticed that just the regular cans stated "age 2 and up", but when you added in little cookie cutter things, it becasme "age 3 and up". Why, I have no idea. I bought the set that comes in a pail and while I was busy reliving my youth through the smell and fun of Play-Doh, DS was more concerned about taking the cutters in and out of the pail. BTW, Target has an "exclusive" set with 50+ shape cutters, which I didn't buy - I knew 49 of them would be under my sofa!

LOL. who am I to criticize dd's food choices? I used to wipe all my food on the floor before I would eat it . mom had to mop the floor twice a day every day til I stopped-not sure what that's about. I prefer to think of it as one of those quirky genius things .

We use PlayDoh brand. It's great. Clean up is a snap and it lasts a long time.

Thanks again, I went shopping and can't wait to play- babe is sound asleep and I can't really justify cracking open babe's new playdoh alone The colors are so much better now.

We've only had two "tasting" episodes, odd since babe has never tried eating anything else, no rocks, no leaves, etc. (unlike babe's cousin who attempts to gobble up handfuls of gravel or woodchips).

Ummm have you tasted PlayDoh lately? The stuff is really really GROSS. So after one or two tastes...babe is not going back for more!!

WARNING: Do not ever but the scented play doh!!! I thought it would be cool..like those colored markers that smelled like fruit..OH NO!!! The smell of the stuff literally got me sick to my stomach. It's awful.
And hide the black color...it does not mix well.

Funny, I have hidden the black polka dot paint, I hate to see the tips of markers etc. turn black. I'm have to let go a little, babe is mixing as we speak and I'm fighting the urge to let babe only have one color at a time to keep it from happening. How silly is that? I'll remember about the scented playdoh, I loved the scented fruit markers when I taught, made being with kids during projects so much nicer.
