We adopted a special needs child from the SC DSS. This child which we will call "Timmy" has hurt our pets, children (one he tried to smother while he was asleep in his crib), neighbor's children, been kicked out of school, etc. etc.

Timmy was placed into 24 hr/day supervised group homes where he could be monitored and given the counseling he needed.

Last December SC DSS told us he was to be released from group home to return to our house. County mental health stated that he was not ready to go home, but due to SC DSS financial bottom line we were told to come get him. We pleaded with DSS not to let Timmy back into our home in fear that something else would happen to our other children (all younger then him) because each time he comes home he does something worse then the time before.

Timmy came home and with in 6 months he committed a felony sexual assault on one of his younger siblings. Timmy pleaded guilty in court and now the rest of our family is going to counseling and my children are scared that he will return. The pain and suffering that was caused by this whole thing is unbearable.

I am looking for any one else who has had the same problem with an adoption from SC DSS that went bad and SC DSS did nothing but watch it happen and then say there is nothing that they can do. Or maybe there is a lawyer that is versed in adoption law that can help us.

Now DSS has a case against me and my husband seperately to pay them child support for this child while he is in DJJ. I do not work because I'm a stay at home mom and they are making me pay child support as if I worked 40 hrs a week at minimum wage. They are charging my husband as well, so basically, they are going after his paycheck twice for the same child. The child that hurt my other children. Can you believe this.

My heart goes out to you. My good friend had this happen with their daughter they adopted at 3 from Bolivia and it went on for years. Finally they took her to DCF here in CT and told them to remove her permanently and they did, but turned around and charged them with neglect, can you believe that? My friend got a good lawyer and it was brought down a few charges and they accepted it just to keep the rest of the family safe. She said life is finally normal again and she can sleep in peace without fear now.
