Don't little girls get cold??...vent

OK so we live in New Hampshire and it tends to get pretty cold here. I went looking for clothes for Addy for the super cold weather. There were lots of rediculous little tops with tons of bows and applique's and little flowery pants and some sweats but nothing for super cold weather. So I wandered over to the little boys department....TONS of stuff, little fleece jumpsuits, lined pants, warm longsleeve tops, heavy cords etc. It was rediculous. Do they think we just keep little girls inside all winter and just bring them out when it's warm with the sun shining??

I guess Addy will be dressed more like a boy this winter. I got her some fleece lined overalls and some tan cord pants and some regular cotton turtle necks (without all the frillies around the neck - maybe I can put some bows in her hair .

I know LLBean and LandsEnd have some stuff but the prices are OBSCENE!!

Anyway, if you got this far, thanx for listening.

Martha

Oh man, I hear ya, Martha!! We live in a chilly corner of upstate NY, and I too have had the worst problem finding WARM clothes for the kiddo. I wind up dressing her in layers - onesie and tights under pants and shirt then sweater...... She wears tights almost all winter! (And boy, doesn't having the extra layer of tights make diaper changing in winter that much more fun? )

One place I have had luck finding warmer stuff for girls is Old Navy, with their fleece line. You might check them out!

Either that, or we should both "winter" in the Caribbean...

I went shopping for winter clothes for my son today and almost all the BX had was shorts. That would be great if we were stationed in Guam or Hawaii but we are in Germany and it's already cold! Sometimes I think that the department merchandisers just close their eyes and throw darts at order forms.

on the other side of the world, it's going to be 93 degrees here in los angeles (and over 90 all week), where they've been trying to get us to buy winter clothes for the past two months. I think all your east coast clothes were shipped out here-duh! we have very cute stuff for cooler weather, but have yet to see under 70 so far (that's just my dig at those in cooler temps ).

btw, I yelled (very gently) at Lands end for having very cute clothes but only for sizes 2T and up. They have some clothes for smaller kids, but they're not really as cute and they're mostly play clothes and onesies-ick. if we're lucky, dd will be in a 2T at the end of next year .

hey, i know it's los angeles, but I saw a ton of really cold weather gear (the stuff you wear on the ski slopes and stuff) at Once upon a Child (used clothing chain). Don't know if they're out your way, but that's a good way to find inexpensive stuff.

I live in the midwest and have been complaing about kids' clothes since my oldest was a baby back in the early 80's!!!!!!!

I get so sick of seeing ridiculously skimpy stuff for little girls (again, even for winter); and after the age of 18months...all little boy clothes either has some sports theme or camoflauge...or worse yet, some 'beat 'em up, let's go truckin' ' theme!!!! Ugh......

Anyway......we lived in the mountains of New Mexico (something like 183 inches of snow that winter) when the first two were little, and I found myself dressing them (one girl, one boy) in bibs. Yeah, it could get a little repetitive; but I had various colors and different decorative ones too. I found that this, along with an undershirt (a paloocho (sp?).....which now has been re-named the 'onesie' )....could keep them pretty warm inside.

But, understand, I'm not one to think that little girsl should be wearing little dresses with only tights in the early spring, as temps are a 'high' of 40??????? (Or colder yet.......bare legs!?!?!?!?!?)

Okay.....that's a vent for me too. Which is why I find myself buying more and more from the second-hand stores who have gone out to find more sensible clothing for this area than the local stores can bring!

Sincerely,

Linny

Ugh! I agree! We're just outside Toronto, and we get a lot of snow. The stores all have lots of long sleeved t-shirts with glitter and bows. Not warm enough by far.

I've found a little bit of luck at Sears, but for the most part have been buying her jogging suits from the boys section. Given she's #1, I like the idea of being able to reuse some of what we buy her. E.g. her winter boots were navy and black last year, and her snow pants were navy. It's also a good way to justify some of the expense of her gear to dh.

I don't have experience shopping for wee ones *yet* but I know it's going to be hard.

Like Lisa, for the past two monts I've been battling through all the winter ski gear to get to the only swimsuits to be found which were already on clearance racks! This is Arizona! I'm not expecting it to stay below 100 for another few weeks and someone wants to sell me fur lined boots, huge sweaters and ski pants?!? Of course when it actually is "cold" here the spring line will be out.

God Bless,

I must live in the wrong part of the country. I can't find any boys clothes!

K-Mart - almost all girls stuff
Target - lots of girls stuff
Wal*Mart - about 50/50

K-Mart and Target here really has some nice girls stuff. Some of the stuff at Target is a little flashy and probably not to warm, but K-Mart has a ton of girls fleece!

My sister, co-workers and cousins swear by Old Navy and I love The Children's Place.

I'm trying to remember what I've seen:

old navy had some fleece, but it may have been just boys stuff-that's what we tend to buy since I gag on all the pink and purple. And check on line. they have a great shipping policy and more stuff there. And the children's place always has cool stuff, sweaters, and maybe even lined pants. Sorry but we don't look at the heavy stuff. I was in target today (I go at least once a week-so sad) and they had a lot of heavier stuff (maybe not quite what you need) but we tend to shop at the end of season sales, since we have such a short winter season. by the time the xmas sales start, we'll start having 60 degree weather. I'll keep my eyes peeled though...

gagging right along with ya

It could be partially because I have 5 girls now but I'm so sick of pink and purple, I could PUKE!! Addy still has some and I'll still take the pink and purple over all the stupid frills and lumps and bumps all over the girls stuff. I bought all boys or unisex blanket sleepers for this winter because the necklines on the girls ones are all bumpy and stiff. Oh and don't get me started on the floppy sleeves, like they don't get enough crud on their clothes without giving them more yardage to drag through their meals.

My 11 year old had some sensory issues and used to feel all her clothes on the inside before she would even consider wearing them - I picked that up from her and always check out clothes onthe inside first.

OK, I had two more HUGE assignments due by thurs that I am avoiding. Better go.

Martha

hey martha, hope the rains haven't washed you out. build that ark while you still can .

I was in the Gap this weekend and came across some lined pants. Of course they're gap prices , but check them out and compare them with LLBean and Landsend. who knows, they might be cheaper...

and if the gap has them, sounds like Old navy might too.
