Ideas for our neutral nursery

We haven't done a thing in our nursery. We simply cleared out a room and then closed the door. We know it will be the baby's room someday, but have been too afraid that we might "jinx" ourselves to do any decorating. The more I realize just how much stuff will need to be done once we bring a baby home, the more I realize that we probably should get started on the things we can do NOW. Once we are parents, I'm sure there will be far less time for hand stencilled walls and other such crafty nonsense. If I'm going to do it, I guess I should do it now. So jinx be darned... we're starting to plan. Now I need some ideas.

Since we are still waiting to be matched, we obviously have to do something unisex. Right now, we're contemplating a Noah's Ark theme, but haven't found any bedding that we really like.

What other ideas do you all have?

Kelli

Pottery Barn Kids has great stuff. Check them out. I didn't want anything to "matchie matchie" or typical. So I purchased a quilt and some small things from them. I am making the rest myself. Really it is giving me a project to focus on during the waiting! Have fun.

Raggedy Ann and Andy is always cute. There's also a collection of girl/boy Teddy Bears i see a lot. All bright primary colors if you don't lean toward pastels of Winnie the Poo and Noah..

Someday there will be a baby. Enjoy getting ready

I am going through a frog phase right now. You could do something very cute with this and then add butterfly's if you end up with a baby girl. Here is my nursery, it was just green dots until we got the call. I then added the blue dots and purchased the bedding. If it had been a girl I would have added pink dots. Also on the Guatemala board someone posted a paint by number mural website that had really awesome murals.

I think that doing a nursery now is a great idea! We waited until after we were matched and then when the match failed, it seemed like his room. I had to completely redo it after dd was placed with us, lol. If I would have done it pre-match, it would have been more for any child that we were blessed with than for a specific one.

Now, for themes, there are a few cute gender neutral ones at Babies R Us. They have a "Malawi" set that is very cute with animals. They also have a cuet honey bee one and a super cute froggy one- I like frogs, too, Jen!

Somewhere I have seen a beutiful red set with The Cat in the Hat. It would have been great for us, since we bought black nursery furniture, but we had already bought our set.

Whatever you end up doing, I am sure it will turn out great!!

Ours doesn't have a jump out 'atcha theme, but Classic Pooh is sprinkled around the room. The CP colors are very neutral. When I can get it together, I'll post pics of the nursery.

We used a soft green (sage??) on the walls with accents in brick red and burnt yellow. Curtains and bedskirt I made out of red gingham after Bug was hime, which made it more feminine for her. We used Bears and Books as our theme as that is what we had (no specific bedding except someone gave us some Blue Jean Teddy Bear stuff so we used some of that in the end... can you tell I'm not picky about this stuff?) It was fun to kind of put it together over time not just do it so everything matched. Eclectic I guess...

Whatever you do, don't spend a lot of money on a comforter type quilt as you can really use them much when the babe is a newborn. And we bought a dresser instead of a changing table. We never would have used the changine table (we used the bed until she moved into it or our bed or a mat on the floor) and the dresser can go with her as she grows up.

I had classic Beatrix Potter (Peter Rabbit) in primarily aqua and cream with touches of the rest of the muted pastel rainbow for my nursery. I had lots of wood tones too. My children were born 22 months apart a boy and girl and both used the room together even though it was a four bedroom house because for me it was easiest to keep them both in the room beside me.

We painted the walls yellow and I stenciled the words to Twinkle Twinkle Little Star around the top of the walls. It was very cute. My MIL made my bedding and curtains out of light blue, yellow, and lt. green. Kind of had a star/moon theme. We are using it again for baby #2, but this time we painted the walls green. I haven't stenciled anything yet this time. Still looking for something that grabs my attention. We definitely do our nurseries before we are matched. It was GREAT therapy for me. It allowed me to enjoy the process so much more rather than stressing about when it would happen and how in the world I would get everything done afterwards.

Good luck
Kim

I will try and attach a picture of Lexi's bed. We did her room for either sex. It's a bug theme. You can see the sheet and bumper pad.. Lexi and I was having a good time in her bed...hehehe!!! We just put up her new Canopy bed today...(Cry!!!) They grow up too fast!!! She is now 3 years old as of last week!!!

Let us know if you find anything. I will PM you where you can find alot of neat things that is less than $200.00.. I think we spent $185.00 for a 5 piece set.

Jen, I LOVE the dots! So fun!

Did you use mylar stencils, and did you cut them yourself? (Seriously considering stealing this for one of my bathrooms!)
