I found a girl and a boy bedding set I like then picked a color that would work with both. So I painted the walls yellow (a light yellow), and the ceiling fan paddles. Which really led to puting in new outlets, a dimmer switch (which I love!), new trim, making the walk in closet more storage friendly etc. Then I ordered the crib/changing table/dresser. So all that took some time to get and put together and figure where I liked it in the room.
Then once we were matched we bought the boy bedding and just left it in the bag with the receipt. When we brought out little prince home it only took about 3 weeks (which he slept in our room anyway) to put the border up and by then we had 4 showers so everyone knew the theme and we got our matching lamp, mobile, wall hangings etc. He slept so much the first month, I really enjoyed working on his room. Especially knowing he was home and would be enjoying his room. I was glad I didn't have to start from scratch, it was fun doing everything at a slow pace and properly and not just thrown together. But I was also glad I didn't have a room completed before we left for the hospital. I also would have worried we would jinx the match, or like Casey said probably would have changed everything if the matched failed. Good luck!

Nevada Jen - love the dots! How fun!!
Shelley (SL) - You did what we did. It was one of our guest rooms, we picked out furniture and bedsets for each sex. Then, bought the appropriate set after we got home. This time - we have a blue guest room, and a bedroom that REALLY needs painting - so I think I will paint it a very light pink which will go perfectly with a beautiful set a good friend gave us when we decided to adopt again. She is convinced we will adopt a girl - but we will be prepared either way!

For our first son, we did the entire room in "Winnie the Pooh". (Curtains, pictures, lamp, everthing) I said I would never do a theme room again.
When we brought our second son home this past June, we only had about two weeks to get the room ready. I went looking for things, and, yes, we did a theme room again, but I didn't buy theme curtains or lamps, etc. The bedding is Boyd's Bears, and there is a Boyd's Bears mobile and mat in there. There are bear decals on the wall as well. We never did buy a change table. I have always changed my sons in their cribs or on the floor. The other furniture and lamp, etc. in the room will grow with the baby. ![]()

Here is mine...
I did paint the furniture blue, but it is still pretty neutral. Eventually, we will paint the walls some bright color. But, right now we are trying to sell our house so the wall paint will have to wait for the new house.
Good luck! I so enjoyed doing our nursery. |

We did the John Lennon baby stuff for our 2 (boy and girl) who share a room for now while they are so little. You can use an overhead projector to put the images on the wall (then pencil in and paint). We have a floor to ceiling palm tree arching over one bed and a huge giraffe over the other. There is a dancing elephant whose trunk is a saxaphone and over the dresser the words "Golden slumbers fill your eyes, Smile awake you when you rise" are stenciled. My favorite is the little bird sitting atop the closet chirping music notes.
You can find all the bedding, accesories and such at the online auction site (not sure if it's okay to name it ).

What about a Mickey & Minnie Mouse room? Or bugs...or just an ecru room and then add either pink or blue when your little one comes home....

we didn't do up dd's nursery til she arrived
. that meant everything was rather thrown together but we're happy that way. we used bold primary colors (red, blue, a bit of yellow and green) and a few baseball elements, and poof! a nursery. we tend to hate the cutesy look, so no patterns or themes for us. Not sure what I'll do with the next one...did want to paint some designs on the wall for dd but never got around to it. ah well... lisa

My vote is to spend your time decorating and shopping! The two things that adoptive moms DO get to do. . . I sewed the items for our waiting nursery in eyelet, which I decided I'd be able to reuse along with a girl's nursery and maybeeee with a boy's. For our first adoption I chose stars and moons for our boy, but at that time I couldn't sew (in my heart) until he was with us. This time, I HAD to put together the nursery, basics only, and then have added to it. If you search online for your theme ideas, you can find several great retailers -- feel free to pm me -- I've been working on the transition of our nursery from eyelet (2 years of waiting) to butterflies for our baby girl due in Nov. Working on the nursery is a great idea! Shop for clothes, too, if you really want to spend money and will at least have great baby presents for other gender! susan

We have Beatrix Potter not with pastels, but with sage and earth tones. I paid 15.00 off ebay and got 5 rolls, each with 15 feet on them. Nursery border
