okay, so I'm less perfect than before . I still haven't given dd french fries, so I still feel pretty close to perfect . I will confess here when she does have her first french fry. We came close at a game last weekend. we ate the fries, dd wanted some, we said no, she fussed, so we dipped a cracker in the ketchup all over the fries and she hated it-that was the end of the need for fries. whew!

thanks for the support, it's made my day in bed much better. Dh took dd to an indoor kid play place this afternoon, that has age appropriate stuff, like a museum (kidspace, for those familiar with pasadena). of course dh forgot her milk and since she's lactose intolerant, you can't just buy milk to give her. I must get better soon. No telling what he gave her as a substitute . Hopefully it was just watered down apple juice.

wiggles. I am so in fear of wiggles. I refuse to buy any of that stuff and we will return any wiggles toys, cds, dvd, that ever arrive. And Dh is required to attend all those type of events (we divvied up stuff before dd arrived: He plays the endless candyland games, attends the wiggles and her soccer games, I'll help with the stuff that doesn't upset me, to be determined later ). I hear the wiggles are filthy rich-such a crime. Are these guys single?

amazing what stays in your head, the songs from long ago. I still remember a few of the bad riddles that my little sis (4 years younger) had in her Riddles book (that she repeated over and over). Can't get it out of my head almost 40 years later . I'll be in the old folks home, suffering from alzheimers and still remember those riddles over and over, not to mention dd's todd parr books .

We rotate toys and books and it has been great. Every once in awhile we discover "new" things (which means buying less). DS (4) helps us now to decide what to put away for awhile, and what to bring out.
DS prefers for me to tell stories rather than to read them at "rest time" (the unsatisfying replacement for naptime) while dh can read books to him at night. When I've been sick (or exhausted, not that rare) I've drifted off while telling stories, and rather than stopping, apparently I've continued to say very weird things, so that I wake up to "Momma, I'm not understanding the story." Neither am I, ds, neither am I . . .
Good luck to you! (And I must admit I love Todd Parr).

Lisa,

Three out of four of the Wiggles are married and have young children. They met while attending classes in early childhood education (3 of them I think) and decided to start a children's band. The kids in Australia loved them and it grew from there. They write a lot of their own music, but also sing a lot of traditional folk songs. Dd is a major Wiggles fan so I was curious about them. And honestly, I'll take the Wiggles over Barney any day. Their stories are cute, their music is fun and it gets kids up and dancing.

Memorizing books? LOL

Ten little ladybugs sitting on a vine. Along came a butterfly and then there were 9.
Nine little ladybugs skipping on a gate. Along came a caterpillar, then there were 8............

or
Big A, little a, what begins with A?
Aunt Annie's alligator A a A

I will only read a book twice and then I tell dd to go pick out another one. We have sooo many books, but unless I pick one out for her, she always goes back to a few. The book I hate the most? The Button Book! It has ten different colored buttons attached by ribbons that you put in the circles on each page. No real story, just a description of the picture. But the ribbons will not stay unknotted! I spend more time untangling those ribbons. I really think that book needs to disappear.

so one wiggle is single, huh? LOL! I guess i'm not into "cute" because the songs I've heard make me want to put an end to my life-ugh. I'm beginning to think that flute or violin lessons might not be so bad...

the first book dd has us memorize was "five in the bed"

"there were five in the bed, and the little one said,'roll over, roll over!' and they all rolled over and one fell out.

Then there were four in the bed, and the little one said, 'roll over, roll over' and they all rolled over and one fell out.

Then there were three in the bed, and the little one said, 'roll over, roll over' and they all rolled over and one fell out.

Then there were two in the bed, and the little one said, 'roll over, roll over' and they all rolled over and one fell out.

then there was one in the bed. and the little one said 'I want my friends back in bed!' 'Goodnight!'"

even my sis has it memorized after babysitting for two days. so sad. brain filled with mush. Dh complains of a continuity error, with one picture of the bear with glasses on, the other he has them off-too much time studying the book .

Memorizing is not a bad thing--

DS and I must have all of the Dr. Seuss books memorized. I can read ( and he can recite) while we are both half asleep. He does catch me when I try to skip--which I often do cause Horton Hears a Who and McElligott's Pool are really Loooooooooooooooong.
" Young man, said the farmer, you're kind of a fool, you'll never catch fish in Mc Elligott's Pool,
the pool is too small and you might as well know it, when people have junk that's the place that they throw it....
you might catch a boot or you might catch a can
...you might catch a bottle, but listen young man,
if you sat 50 years with your worms and your wishes....
you'd grow a long beard long before you'd catch fishes!!!!"

I do like the new educational series on mammals, dinosaurs, birds, insects, weather and marine life. And yes, DS and I have memorized most of those too!!!

Look behind the basket
Look behind the door
Find a peek-a-boo friend
And then find some more
Peek-a-boo
Peek-a-boo
Can you see me?
I see you!

That was my baby sister's favorite board book 21 years ago, and I still have it memorized... All of us did so that we could quote it in our sleep to hush her in the middle of the night.

Oh Lisa, that's a song! It's on the kids song CD I have to make disappear, right after the ever popular and oft requested Muffin Man. "Sorry Sweetie, the radio is only playing NPR today."

I too am a bad mom

People at work on Monday were telling me I am a bad mom because I was hoping for a thunderstorm so soccer would be cancelled. Right now we are so busy putting together our homestudy paperwork. Between fire inspections, our three physicals at three different doctors, taking pets to the vet, our adoption info meeting, Social Worker visit, trips to the department of vital statistic to get copies of Birth Cerificates, and visits to friends to hand out our referal forms I am EXHAUSTED to say the least. The Good Part is we will have all the paper work done by Monday morning Then we start training! Until then I will continue to hope for thunderstorms. So far I have had no luck

My Husband and I also spelled a lot when Cory was around. Worked great until he started to figure out what we were spelling. I also have to admit I was bad at skipping pages in books if I was not feeling well.

Maureen, gosh! Now I'm really sounding evil! lol! Not only do I hope soccer practice is cancelled, I hope my kids find another sport to participate in! I HATE soccer....there I said it!

I take them, go to the games, cheer wildly and loudly but I don't like the game. What can I say? I don't like everything my kids do but I'll support them anyway. (there are exceptions of course, like I will not support my son's desire to have an indoor spider & snake aquarium...)

I hate soccer too . I'll take six spider and snake acquariums over a single soccer game.

I almost had a pet boa growing up. my mom reneged last minute when she feared it would eat the cats . still holding a grudge over that one.

spaypets-so it's on cd too, huh? geez. must never let her online to see that one!
