It's official...I've turned into my mom

today's monday which is a big cleaning day in our house, so I vacuum, sweep, wash etc, including doing laundry, wondering how three people could make so many clothes dirty. I run out to throw some things in the recycling bin, and I caught my reflection in the mirror-I'm wearing slippers and an apron, with gloves on my hand. That's exactly what mom looked like when she was taking care of us. It's funny yet frightening in so many ways.

I can relate

Wait till your kids start telling you you sound just like Grandma - that always makes me cringe. You must go do something today that your mother would NEVER do, it'll make you feel better.

The moment I turned into my mom was when Nathan was a toddler and got into something (I don't remember what) and I walked into the room to see this huge mess and I said:

"Nathan Daniel B! Have you lost your mind?!" It was as if my mother took over my body for a moment.

Lisa,

Very funny picture painted there. I think the very fact that you have a scheduled day for those activites is also a sign of turning into your mom. I would really start worrying if you can't do things on Wednesday because it is your bridge day!

The other day I caught myself talking to 3 month old DS about how it was important to work hard so he could get into a good college (a fact that was beat into me everyday of my life) in relation to his fussing over tummy time. Bad. Must vow not to extert to much pressure on children lest they turn into a workaholic who is trying to figure out how to smuggle her lap top into the hospital so as not to miss any oppurtunity to get ahead.

I can relate. I always swore that I wouldn't be like my mom either. It doesn't help that I look JUST like and have for many, many years. I even have the same body type AND the rolls of fat in certain areas are identical! She was very loving and nurturing, so my boys benefit greatly from that........BUT the annoying habits and sayings and even the way she moved is all me now!!!!

What happened????

It's not the look, but the words!!

I may not look too much like either one of my parents, but I have repeated the phrase that I absolutely, positively HATED to hear when I was growing up: "Get that tone out of your voice!!" When those words first escaped from my mouth I thought OMG, I can't believe I just said that!!! When I admitted to my parents that I uttered those words I thought that they would both die from fits of laughter. I think they continued to laugh about it for their whole 6 hour ride home.

No hope for me either! The sad thing is that I am only 25 years old and I look and act just like her!! Can't even imagine what I will be like when we actually have kids Just curious to know how many of you all are the oldest child? I think that plays a part for me-I have two younger sisters. My youngest sister is 10 yrs. younger and my other sister is 7 years younger than me, so I was expected to be a "little mommy" to them. I can not tell you how many times my 18 yr old sister has rolled her eyes at me and said "when did you turn into mom?" OUCH!!!!!!

glad to have the company .

I'm the middle child, but my older sister was six years older, so apparently there's so much time between us it's like having another first child. That and the fact that my older sister had mental health issues meant I was clearly the responsible one.

here are the things I've said that sound like mom:

"if you can take them out of the drawer you can put them back in"

"I can't have anything nice because of _fill in the blank_ (bunnies, kitties, kids, husband )"

I'm holding back on many of the statements, including "we all have wants, needs, and desires that go unfulfilled"-this is a killer and should only used for those past kindergarten. it's just too depressing .

scary, scary, scary...

When my daughter was 13 I uttered "Wipe that look off your face", all mom....I called my mom that afternoon and apologized for all the rude things I'd done as a teenager. She laughed so hard and we had a good talk. There are times when I think I'm her...and other times when I embrace the things I've learned on my own as a mother for nearly 20 years now. With our newest baby, and our last, I sometimes think I know nothing at all.

Just recently I had a conversation with my 7 year old son that ended with one of my mother's classic statements coming out of MY mouth. In response to a question as to why he had to do something I actually found myself uttering the phrase "because I'm your mother and I say so". UGH...gives me chills just thinking about it!

even worse here -

my Mom was visiting, and we said the exact same thing, at the exact same time to the boys - I don't remember what they were doing, nothing major.

My husband just said "Oh my God" and left the room -
