Could this be a Scam???? HELP!

We just got an e-mail this morning from a potential birthmother but we are a little leary. This is what she wrote:

Hello,

My name is Alli. I live in a rural community in Texas. I am currently 6 months pregnant with twins. I did a search on ------------.com for twins and your names came up. I read your replies and I loved them.

I am 17 and will be a senior in high school when I give birth. My children will be wonderful I know and I only wish I could keep them. My family is very unsupportive and have threatened to kick me out if I keep the babies. Twin's run in my family, and the Dr's are not totally certain that I will have twins, but are 90% sure. I want my children raised in a loving home with a family that can care for them and where their needs will be met and wants too. I would love to get to know you more, and see if you are the family for my beloved children, so if you are still interested, please contact me.

Yours Truly,

Alli

So what makes us skeptical is that she wrote that the dr's are 90% sure?? At 6 months, you aren't just 90% sure?! We wrote her back and told her that we are definately interested and basically told her that if she wanted more information about us she needed to contact our attorney and he would be more than happy to mail out our journal with more information.

Can anyone give me some imput on this one? I would love to hear what you all have to say.

Thanks
Anna

Oh Anna .... this doesn't sound too promising to me. If she were in fact pregnant and received prenatal care, by 6 months there certainly wouldn't be any doubt as to whether or not she was carrying twins. You did the right thing by refering her to your attorney and not giving her more info. Good luck

so sorry

I would repost on the scam board since this looks like one. At six months the doctors should be able to tell if she is having good medical. Even if she was not having good medical they would hear to heartbeats and not just one. I wouldn't put your heart into, but do see what your att finds out? My thoughts are with you today and I will check back later

While I would certainly be cautious, I would not presume this was a scam. I would more likely, at least initially, presume that she had not yet seen a doctor and just assumes she "might" have twins based on family history. While prenatal care can be extremely valuable and is always advisable, I, personally, would not be concerned about a case where it has not been provided. I do think you did the right thing by referring her to your attorney; I think that is a good approach for any possible situation. Wishing you luck and peace. Let us know what happens.

I third what redhedded said. I would definitely proceed with caution, but not automatically presume this to be a scam based on what she has shared thus far. You're doing the right thing by getting your attorney involved.

Best wishes to you,

Kelli

Normally, I would agree with red (and those that follow) but this young woman is going out of her way to fluff this twins thing, even indicating that she'd been to the Dr. and that the Dr. was 90% certain. If she was acting on family history, why mention the Dr. at all?

To be honest, I see red flags...but you've done what you're supposed to do...now just make sure your lawyer does what he is supposed to do.

Also,

There was a known scammer at the first of the year with the same name (different spelling) so that's also something to look in to.

That Alley was from Fredericksburg, VA.

Maybe her last visit to the doctor indicated there might be two? Maybe she hasn't been back in a few months. Keep us posted. I hope she isn't scamming anyone and is just a confused 17-year-old.

I know this is not a good way to evaluate, but does this *sound* like a 17 year old wrote it?

Anna...Have you heard back from the girl? Sometimes once you say contact my Agency or Attorney, if it's a scam, they will not write back...

Keep us posted...

Twins

I just have to add my experience here....

I am the mother of twins, and I was almost 5 mths. pregnant before my Dr. even considered the fact that I might be having twins, and that was only because I jokingly asked him if he heard 2 heartbeats during a regular check-up (since I was so HUGE and had been wearing maternity clothes since I was abt. 2 mths. pregnant.)

He got done listening and said nope, he only heard one.
Then he asked me why I had asked him if he heard two, did twins run in my family or what, etc.

I told him no they didn't, but since I was so big, it was just a thought that had crossed my mind. He measured my tummy and decided that yes indeed, I was larger than I should have been at that point and scheduled an ultrasound for the following month, and sure enough, there were two.

Also, my initial ultrasound (to determine my due date) was done at 7 weeks, and only showed one.

My point is, is that had I not asked, I sometimes wonder how long it would have taken my doctor to figure it out, if ever, or if the second one would have just been a HUGE surprise in the delivery room?

Not saying this is or isn't a scam, just saying it is possible to be 6 mths. pregnant and have your Dr. unsure about whether or not there are 2....

HOWEVER, I think if the Dr. in this case is 90% sure, that he'd do a little further investigating (ultrasound) and become 100% sure. Especially since twins are usually a high-risk pregnancy, there are so many risks involved, and with this girl being so young... but that's JMO.

Ok, after reading my last comment again... I am leaning more towards this being not quite on the up & up.

Karmen

My first thought was is this person younger (perhaps much younger) than 17? Hope it's legit! You handled it the right way.

Just wondering if you have an update for us. Many people are thinking about you and your family and hope everything is going good. Thoughts with you at this time.
