Talking My rollercoaster day

Today I was really at the end of my rope. I was so frustrated that the interview portion of the homestudy had not been done and I was really ready to blow. I seriously considered taking a personal day because I just did not feel I could face the world. I decided to call my agency and politely ask the status of my local clearance. I called. The woman who answered the phone was short with me and said she would have someone look into it but that she was on her way out the door. She took my name and number. After I hung up and was packing up to leave because I just couldn't stand it. 30 seconds later my phone rings. It is the same woman from my agency I had just talked to. I said wow that was fast! She said, well I will not be able to have someone call you back about the status of your file because I am on my way out the door with it to show to a mom who just gave birth in an agency pick adoption. Talk about a long day waiting for THE CALL. I got it at 4 on the button. A baby boy was born who was undoubtedly made just for us. He is everythhing I dreamed of but was afraid to ask for because I did not want to increase my wait. THe earliest she can relinquish is friday. We cannot see the baby in the hospital but can see the baby when he goes to cradle care on thursday. Tears are streaming down my face that prayers I dared not pray have been answered.

I am sure you will see me begging for support as I wait out the next few days.

Does anyone know what I absolutely must have other than a car seat for a baby. I have one child so you would think I could figure this out but my mind is really not working right now.

Thank you everyone for your supprt.

Jen

Oh Jen, What wonderful, wonderful news! I am so happy for you and family! We, too, went to bed unmatched and tired and were awakened about our perfect daughter who had been born that evening. We traveled to meet her and take her home from the hospital less than 8 hours after receiving that call!

This will be a whirlwind of ecstatic emotions, of not believing that this is happening. I know; I have been there. I wondered every minute how I could have ever been so blessed to have the opportunity to raise this little person. Now, I wonder it about my two perfect babes. And. . . Thursday is just right around the corner. Journal these feelings. Get your camera ready. Find out what formula he is on; that, diapers, fragrance free wipes and onesies is all you must have now.

If you are traveling, I highly recommend a corporate apartment. We have done it twice, with dd, when the stay was 40+ days and with ds, when the stay was just over two weeks.

Wishing you a peaceful day preparing and hoping you are one step closer to being a mama again!

Congratulations!

Wow, what a day it must have been! We also had an agency-pick placement, and it has suited us perfectly. I'll be thinking of you, it was only two days for us from the call to the meeting but they seemed like days that lasted F O R E V E R! (might also have seemed long since a one way plane ticket to GA 1000 mi away was about $900 so we drove it in one day) But, when DD was lovingly placed in my arms by her Birthmother it was all worth it, it made sense, it was perfect! Oh, I'm so excited for you!!!

All we really needed and couldn't do without were diapers, wipes, formula and bottles, bottle warmer was most helpful, clothes, blankets, bath stuff, and COFFEE!!

Cant wait to hear more!

Thanks guys. Is it unreasonable for me to not sleep till thursday? Its a 72 revoke here and a local adoption. Revoke is final. Bdad is the only possible risk. We can visit the baby as soon as the baby goes to cradle care. Anyone dealt with cradle care. Like can I pack a bag and just move in with the family? Or do you think that's unreasonable. I cannot wait!!

What exciting news! (Kinda makes the frustration of the homestudy go away, huh? ) Good luck and get some sleep - you won't be getting much for a while!

I think others have summed it up, but food, diapers, place to sleep, car seat, and something to wear (ooh, don't forget a camera!). Evertything else will come as needed. Keep us updated!

Jen, how thrilling!!!!!!!!!!!

What a wild day, I can just imagine how excited and nervous you are right now. I'll be praying for you, and baby BOY, and pbparents, too.

If I remember correctly, Cradle Care (through our agency anyway) means the foster families that the agency uses for all of their babies where pbmom doesn't take them home, and relinquishments have not been signed. Usually, it's 3 or 4 families who are licensed by the state, but are not "regular" foster families. They only work with the agency and are generally very familiar with adoption and the processes of the agency. Baby will be in good hands here, though I know you want to have him home!

The one thing I suggest if you're not nursery-ready is a good pack-n-play with bassinet and changing table attachments. Baby can sleep there very comfortably in your room.

Good luck!!!!! I can't wait to hear more news from you!

Thrilled for you!

Jen,

Wow oh how incredibly wonderful...I am so thrilled for you.

I haven't read every reply so here's what I took when I got the call that Claire had been born and I needed to get there the next day:

bottles
the hospital will give you enough formula to get by for a few days
pacifier
onsies
blankets
cute socks
little mitts
newborn diapers
wipes
camera
somewhere to put the baby (cradle, bassinet, pack n play)
car seat
somewhere to put the baby while moving (stroller or baby carrier)
a big sister present for your daughter
washcloths
stuff to clean the cord.

Enjoy Enjoy Enjoy!!!
