? about long term effects of opiates (born exposed)
We are being considered for a year old who was born exposed to "opiates".. we know he has some slight motor delays right now but some of that is also attributed to his environment whenre he has spent a good deal of time in a crib.. he is very sweet (we had him for a weekend).. he is not crawling.. but does scoot all around and has started to stand up in his crib., but still has very little leg strength.. he is a bit overweight as well.
So.. what are some things we should ask about and look for if we get this placement? |

I really don't know. But I wanted to say that I really hope that this works out for you!!! When we were considering a baby exposed to crack cocaine, we discovered that a LOT of the time motor and developmental problems were not an issue when the child was removed from that environment.
If you want to see how amazing the effects a loving family can have on a one year old, check out Cobb's thread about Princess A. Casey

I would also love to hear some success stories. We were presented a baby at one time who was born addicted to opiates. We said "no". I will always wonder if we made the right choice or not.
