Mother's Day Surprise
As usual, this Mothers Day, I started feeling all those feelings ("woe is me, the ONLY one in the WORLD withough children..."). I usually go to church, sit with my parents (my hubby doesn't go to my church) and watch the endless parade of mommies be called to the altar to be honored with a blessing and a small potted petunia. Again, woe is me who has no petunia...
THIS year, however, by surprise, my DH offers to go to church with me. I thought it was so he could go out to lunch afterwards with family, but he admitted, he realized that it might be hard for me so it was a show of support (AWWWW! Believe me, that just doesn't happen often.) And then, during the "Parade of Mommies," I caught sight of one of them that made me feel so much better. I had recently heard through the grapevine that this particular mommy had adopted both her girls through the same agency that I am going through. Seeing her up there with her petunia made me feel so hopeful--I almost believe that I will be up on the altar myself next year! So here's to all you other mommies without children...I pass on to you some extra hope! Someday it will be our turn! God Bless! |

what a sweetie! he sounds like a keeper (as long as he helps out with the new baby when s/he comes
). There is hope to be found in all the small things around us-glad you found yours when you needed it.your turn will come as well, and there you'll be with your petunia. btw, you might want to talk to your pastor about expanding the definition of mother to include a ceremony for those who are mothers-to-be (thru birth and adoption), those who are nurturing like mothers (my "second" mom was a neighbor without kids but she's always been there for us), those struggling to become mothers, etc. And other church members could give these petunias out to each other for fitting that category. That way, the day becomes inclusive rather that exclusionary. I suspect you aren't the only one in the audience with issues that day. fingers crossed that your wait won't be long. Lisa
