Two years ago

Today is the second anniversary of the day we became a family (or, as DH likes to say, the anniversary of the only time he got thrown up on in a Mercedes!). When I look at my daughter, I can hardly believe that she is the same serious child I met in a spartan orphanage a world away.

I've nearly forgotten the agony of waiting for a referral and then waiting for guardianship. If only I'd known everything would work out so well...but of course I didn't, and I'm not proud of how impatient I was--I hope I've learned from that time.

My daughter is amazing--developmentally on target (and has been from the start), in the 50th percentile for height, a great swimmer and promising tennis player (did I mention she's only 3 1/2?). She's funny and charming and cooperative.

Last night I had an evening meeting so I wasn't home for dinner. DD had just gone to bed and was still singing along to Bruce Springsteen's "Badlands" so I went up to say good night.

"I so happy," she said.

"Why are you so happy, sweetie?"

"Because Mama's home!"

This morning I told her that today was the anniversary of the day we met her in the orphanage and we became a family.

"I throw up on Papa?" she said.

Happy Family Day!

Thanks, everyone, for your well wishes. Of course, today, DH dropped her off at a friends house while he went to pick up Indian food for dinner tonight (the restaurant is an hour away). He reports that she wasn't much interested in coming home!

Awwww...snot, a little puke and a lot of love. The things that weave a family together.

Happy family day to you all, Spay!

Time goes by so fast

What a nice story to share. You made me cry too. Isn't amazing how all the years, months, or days of anquish can disappear into the past when you have a wonderful little being call you Mama.
Beautiful reminder Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for that. It makes me take a deep breath and know that our baby will find us.

Isn't that the glue that holds everything together?

This just shows what great parents you are...that she's secure enough to know that she can stay and that you will come back to get her.

LOVE your story, Spay! Thanks for sharing!
