Smile We decided on a dog! (previous thread related!)

Well, I am happy to announce that on May 6th-our new family member will be joining us!

We have been diligently searching through petfinder.com and today, we found the one!

The rescue group we are getting him from had a basket of puppies dropped off one morning-owner anonymous. The other ones were already claimed and we met our little boy this morning! He is the final one in the litter.

He is a 6 week old german shepard/lab mix. He is having a Dr appt this Tuesday and then getting fixed on May 3rd. It is their policy that all animals be altered before being adopted.

We are very excited to have him come home with us and it was so hard to leave him behind today. My 4 yr old was very sad. But, the rescue group owner told us to feel free to visit him anytime we want-so Monday morning-we will be there!

Just wanted to share and when we bring him home, I will post pictures! Thanks again for all your help in helping us make this decision!

Now we need to figure out a name! We had a name picked out for a girl (Daisy) but now we need a strong boy name! My 4 yr old suggested Curly or Sprinkles, but I don't think so!

Thanks again! -Susan

That sounds like a lovely mixture, should be great with your children and should be protective of them - have fun!

Oh come on Mom, I like the name "Sprinkles" because.....this is what he will be doing when you potty train him!! After all, if I was a boy and I was "altered", I might show you some sprinkles myself!!

Congratulations on your newest member to your family.

Smile adopted a dog

Congrats on your new family member. We have a 6 year year old Bassett Hound named George, he is so gentle and our son fell in love with him on his first vist. Our dog is very friendly and good to our son as well.
I like the name "Spike" that is rough and strong. LOL
Sounds like a great mix and a wonderful breed. They are great protecters and gentle.

Exclamation Just don't let the kids have the final word on the name...

Ok, true story. My parents agreed to be fos-adopt parents to a purebred German shepherd that would be used as a police dog by our neighbor that was a cop. We would raise it in a family setting until it was old enough and big enough to train at the police academy.
My parents told me she would be my dog (the last dog was my brother's) - and I was so young they didn't think I'd get too attached. they said I could pick any name, and having spent a lot of time that summer in the garden with my Grandma, I named her my favorite flower.
Pansy.
It stuck, and that poor cop must have been the target of all the other cops with this big tough dog named Pansy. Actually she was a fantastic police dog, and did return to the family when she got too old for police work. She eventually lived with my grandparents until the end of their days.
Anyhoo - be careful what you promise! Or, as my dad always said, be sure it's a name you don't mind yelling out the back door when the kids let the dog out the door by accident.

Good luck with the dog!!!

Sandy

Oh Sandy-that is way too funny!! My husband thinks I am being selfish by not letting the kids name the dog, but I agree with the back door philosophy!! I like the name Shep-but with my 2 yr old just learing to talk, he thinks that it will end up sounding like the SH word if she tries to say it!! Thanks for sharing!

Yeah - some hockey fanatic friends had a similar problem with their little boy's pronounciation of "Puck" the dog.....

Smile ooo...doggie names

My boxers name is Charlie, which I love.
Also good names
Max
Duke
Buddy
Jake
I really prefer fairly "human" names. I would hate standing on the porch yelling "Fluffy!!" or "Spot!!"

Congratulations on your newest furry addition to the family!!!

We had a horrible neighbor whose wife had a soft spot when it came to animals. Needless to say, when she brought home an adorable puppy that had been roaming our neighborhood, her husband was none too happy, especialy with his early bathroom training. Well, we always heard the husband cursing at the dog and, eventually, he would later only respond to screams of "F@@@'in dog!". I couldn't help but laugh when my kids stared wide-eyed the first time they heard this guy shout that! We tried to stay away from them for a time, until it got to be too much for his wife and she was forced to leave him in a shelter. I often wonder about the cute puppy and hope that he finally was able to answer to a much nicer name.

Congrats on your new puppy! We have 2 rescued bubbas (that's what they always get called), one part Boxer and one that looks like a hyeana (even the vet says so). Anyway, Daisy is the name of our hyeana and Toby is our Boxer mix. We originally called him Oscar, but he never listened to us when we first brought him home. Well, we came up with Toby somehow and he really responded to it well. We have some neighbor dogs...Gizmo, General, and Peanut if you like any of those. I used to have Coco, Babe, Tui (it's French don't ask, lol), Macie, and Patches. The right name will come to ya, and like someone else said you want a name that does not make you sound like an idiot when you yell it from the porch, lol.

Congratulations! Sounds like a great match. We named all of ours "R" names: Rocky (male shepherd - came with his name), Reggie (female mix), and Reagan (female mix). Everyone wanted to know if our first child would have an "R," name too? As tempting as it was, he won't.

Becareful about letting dad name the dog too. My dad told my mom they could get a new dog if he got to name it. Now they have 3 pugs: Roosevelt (deceased), Theodore, Elanor, and Frankie. Dad is a history buff!

Can't wait to hear the name you pick!

I've got a cat called Charlie (short for Charlotte), our dogs names are:-

Bouncer - he was dropped on his head when he was born and bounced
Bruno - after Bruno Brookes an English DJ
Chyna - China O' Brien (hubby's reasoning), Chyna the female wrestler (my reasoning)

I am just thrilled that you found the puppy that is meant for your family!!!!! The right name will come along, I'm sure.

I also tend to like people names for pets, since they do become members of the family.

I have three dogs: Bailey, Abby, and Karli. If we had another, I think my dh would name it Yoda

I can't wait to see pictures!

Casey
