My husband and I are in the process of adopting a baby from Korea. We should begin our homestudy in the next couple of weeks and have fundraising to do, so it will be several more months before our baby comes home to us.
I am considering breastfeeding our baby but have never been pregnant. Obviously, I will have to supplement and am comfortable at this point in using a Lact-Aid. My goal is to help our baby to latch on well and if I ever produce milk, that'd be great. I really want the closeness with our baby breastfeeding can provide and to be sensitive to who our baby is and his/her needs. I really feel I'll want to make up for lost time in the first few months of our baby's life, and breastfeeding could provide the attachment we desire to establish with our sweet baby. I contacted a local LaLecheLeague leader and she recommended participating in a forum. So, I'm wondering, is there anyone else with experiences to share? |

Hi there!
Congrats on your upcoming adoption! Adoptive breastfeeding is a wonderful experience! I suggest you go to www.fourfriends.com/ubbthreads and check out some of the posts there. Pay special attention to user "Sewlady"'s posts. She has adopted a baby girl from Korea and they are a happy nursing couple today. You can pm me if you want to chat further! Good luck! Hi,
I think it is great that you want to try to breast feed your baby. So many moms don't even when they give birth to a baby. I think it is the most natural, healthy thing there is for a baby. I nursed my babies and it provided such a wonderful closeness. I don't know much about adoptive breast feeding, but my hat is off to you for even trying it! Good luck! |

Here's Hope!
I am currently getting my body ready for adoptive breast feeding. I have received a HUGE amount of information from http://www.asklenore.info. This is a HUGE site that has a great section for adoptive moms. This woman has helped over 500 adoptive moms breastfeed. The forums are very responsive and helpful, and the women participating HAVE adoptive breast fed, or are currently. Also, if you email Lenore personally, she WILL respond, which is awesome. I cannot say enough good things about this site. I also did get a lot from the fourfriends website mentioned to you earlier, but the asklenor.info website is much better in my opinion. (From what I have learned, this Lenore started out on that fourfriends site, but started her own because she had a huge following and people wanted her to).
Hope this helps. |
