Interstate Compact Question

Has anyone every had a problem with the Interstate Compact? How long does it typically take to complete the process. We received a custody order from the judge on Monday 1/24/2005 and the receiving state has yet to receive a package from the sending state. Any help or information would be greatly appreciated.

bobbalove, I went from LA to CA and it took a total of four weeks for Louisiana to get an answer back to California. Good luck and I hope your stay is not too much longer. I have heard it can go as fast as 3 days, however that was not my case.

Typically ICPC takes from 7 - 14 days from submission of initial packet. I've seen longer and shorter. Your packet was submitted when? The 24th or 25th? Generally it will take sending state 3-5 days from receipt to confirm, then they send to receiving state, which takes a few days to confirm.

I've found having your lawyer regularly follow up with both states can help, in our case the receiving ICPC clerk was on vacation so our attorney & agency pushed to have our packet reassigned.

just an FYI, there's a new Yahoo group specifically for ICPC info, from people in each state and people who've adopted from these states:

Update

We waiting five weeks just to get the judge to grant us custody!

We just found out Missouri, the sending state, forgot to put the packet in the mail. It managed to just sit there on the mail desk and no one picked it up! They have agreed to fax it to the receiving state, Kansas. We are waiting to see if Kansas will work off a faxed copy! If they will they promised to complete the request today! My wife and I are hopeful we can finally get home.

It took us 3 days WI - MN. What seemed to help was being willing to send it overnight with a prepaid overnight envelop to send it back again. good luck

We were really lucky! Missouri faxed the paperwork to Kansas and they processed the request in 2 hours! We were able to get home Friday night around 8:30 p.m.

My wife and I both said that home never smelled so sweet. Thanks to everyone for your responses.

Our social worker said they are going to get all the paperwork sent to our receiving state so it will speed the process up. Boy, I sure hope it works!
