Need help w/ adoption announcements
I am in the process of shopping for/designing adoption announcements for our precious new son and wou1d love some he1p. I am hoping that some of the amoms (recent & not-so-recent) would share their wording &/or a description of their announcement. I'm sure that this group has some creative & meaningful ideas.
Thanks in advance!

Since everyone knew we were adopting a baby, we just used regular baby announcements.

I say choose something that is personal to you and shows your individuality. Like JJ, all knew that we adopted, so we made general announcements on handmade paper imprinted with the sacred Thai elephant and added a photo of our dd on the inside.

For our close family and friends we sent special announcements that said...
From Gods arms.... to his birthmothers arms..... to our's.... We wish to announce the arrival of our son born... For other people that do not know how our family was created, we sent standard announcements. ps..we did not use the word birthparents because our son was conceived from a rape.

Our son has been with us since he is 1 day old. We have a domestic semi-open adoption. For our announcements, we went to our local Office Max and bought blank "invitation" style cards with Baby footprints along the border. Here's the wording we chose to use. We also included a picture our our sweet boy.
Born not of our flesh, but in our hearts you were longed for and loved from the very start Conceived from a blessing, sent straight from above our very own son, at last home to love. HIS NAME BIRTHDATE POUNDS INCHES Proud Mommy and Daddy R &J.... Hope this helps and Congratulations!!!!! --Renee |

Ours is a fully open, integrated adoption. Our wording:
Through a child, Families are joined. Behold, the power of love. Announcing the arrival of: Name Details HTH Regina

Since ours coincided with the sending of our Christmas cards, we printed this on parchment and inserted it into each card, which had a picture of me, DH and Sam on the front:
--------- This year, as we celebrate Christ's birth And welcome Him into our lives once again, We also welcome Sam into our hearts and home. Name Born on November 7, 2004 Weight/inches Home with us on November 10, 2004 ------------ Cate

Thanks for the input
I really appreciate all the suggestions. Since our baby is already 5 months old, we'll probably use something similar to McKenna's wording, but on a regular "baby" type paper.
Keep the ideas coming!

Because our situation was uncertain for so long, and most people knew that, we chose the following to convey both that things were resolved and that we are in an open adoption.
"We joyfully announce that
<our son's full-name **>,
Born on <his birth date>
Continues to be the light of our lives.
<His first name> has united families through
open adoption on
<finalization date>"
(** His full adoptive name so folks would know since hubby and I have different last names) Last edited by MNelson : 01-06-2005 at 12:36 PM. |

We waited a two months for relinquishments and once they were signed we began looking for announcements (emtionally I couldn't let myself do it before). We went to a local stationary shop and ordered a folded card with a design on the front, (I glued) baby's picture on the inside and wording on the facing page. They were expensive and I couldn't have cared less, hubby was fully in favor of me going overboard. We sent them out when baby was three months old so we chose to word them like birth announcements, we didn't finalizee for another three months. We did include baby's birthparents on the announcement with their permission.

We used adoption poems that we found for our last 2 adoptions. For our first adoption we had it printed on paper that had baby feet all around the boarder & inside were the words...Our Home Has grown By "TWO FEET". Then we had all the details.
The adoption poems we used were these... We've added to Our Family Tree A stronger one to make A child from another plant Has become our new Namesake. Just as a limb is grafted From one plant to another It alters & improves the plant Making it, uniquely, like no other. Our Family Tree has been improves Adoption made this so For Love, much more than bloodlines Makes us thrive & grow. We chose to share our Life & Love And all the joys to come Our "Family Tree" has blossomed With the arrival of our Precious One. Then the details & a picture The last adoption we used this one... Today I Kissed an Angel I Knew it from the Start The First Time my Angel Smiled at Me I Gave Away My Heart Today I Kissed an Angel This Angel Child of Mine Though not of my Creation My Child's by God's Design Today I Kissed an Angel My Heart is Dancing Wild A Family, by a Miracle Blessed by this Angel Child Then a picture & the details. There are ALOT of poems here on Adoption.com Have Fun & Congrats!!!! Deb

We are in an open adoption. Almost everyone we sent an announcement to knew we were trying to adopt, so we didn't feel that we had to put it in the announcement. So our wording read:
It's a boy! Son's Names Date of Birth Weight Length Our Names I love some of the wordings others have used....might have to "borrow" some ideas for the next one!

Here's what we went with
Found a birth announcement card on Shutterfly.com. Has a 5 x 7 pic on front w/ a border of blue and yellow stars. Says "It's a boy" on the bottom. (I tried to attach the photo, but the file is too large. Any ideas on shrinking it?)
The inside wording: We prayed for this child, and the Lord has granted us what we asked of him. 1 Samuel 1:27 We joyfully announce the arrival of George Trevor Buoni Born on July 24, 2004 In our hearts and home forever December 27, 2004 Nick, Kim and big brother Jack What do you think?
