I just read in a post that someone had received a bad mark on their reputation..i had no idea that we even HAD them...lol. I see the little scale thingy where i can leave a bad or good rep thing....but where do you see what your own (or that of others) reputation is?
Does anyone else think this is stupid?? or is it just me? lol

Try and rate your own post and it will tell you your reputation points. Everyone starts at 10 I believe.

Or go to User CP (Control Panel) on the top of the screen ... and you can see where you have been rated and whether or not that is a positive rating.

I think that it CAN be a good thing (right now its just sort of for fun) because it can be used to tell who has been a long time respected poster on certain topics. If it turns into a popularity contest, or if everytime someone posts something controversial they are slammed - then thats NOT A good thing.

I didn't even know that we had this "reputation" feature, either, till I read this post. So, I thought I'd check it out. Turns out that several people had issues with what I wrote earlier today, so they left me negative feedback. I think that this is more than a little cowardly. If somebody has a problem with what I've written, that's fine by me. I'd like to hear it straight from that person, via PM so as not to make it board business. I welcome everybody's opinion (when and where it is appropriate, as in what's happening to Sadie's post), but I would like to hear directly from that person. Not from somebody who is hiding behind a "reputation button." I think this is ridiculous.

Maybe you read my post. I just posted that I was praying for an Adoptive mom that has been going through things for about 8 months and that was the first bad mark I got...

True, I'd rather that people 'sign' their ratings... at least. A comment and a name is great whether in agreement or not, and make it pertinent to the post.

Leigh...I just clicked on my PM... I think the whole reputation thing is dumb... Sorry... I have been here for quite a long time and I have never said ONE bad thing about anyone here... I am here to support BOTH firstmom's and adoptive mom's. I have met so many great people here. I guess one bad mark is not that bad but I still don't like it...

I agree I don't like that people can write whatever they want about you or your post hiding behind a rating button. I don't like getting anon. messages. I think if someone has something positive or negitive to say to someone they should just tell them and let it be known who they are.

This is a feature I won't be using...IMO it is pretty lame. And if there's someone here who just doesn't like you for whatever reason they could give you a negitive rating on every post without you knowing who they are.

Members are limited on the number of times they can rate someone...you can't rate someone over and over again, if you try it tells you to "spread the love around".

I'm not sure how I feel about the rating system yet...I think its a good idea for moderators/admin...for those users who habitually skate close to the line...but don’t warrant a ban.

My initial concern was the popularity contest aspect...I've only rated a hand full of people of my own accord, the other people I have rated, have been because they warranted it on a moderation level.

The thing to remember with the ratings, is that while you might think your post is fine, others may not think so…I know I was rated negatively by two people simply because they dislike me, and that’s fine too…I’m not going to let it bother me…because in the end, it’ll all work out.

Like someone else said, eventually, the novelty of it will wear off, and we wont have these problems…and trust me, we’ve had some problems.

See I think it's wrong to rate someone with a negitive mark just because you don't like them or even if you don't agree with them. If someone is being really nasty, being mean, trying to start problems or whatever then they deserve a negitive rating.

I'm glad though that there is a limit on how many time someone can rate any one member. That makes it a little more fair.

I still think though that if someone is going to rate someone negitive or positive they should not be annon.

Well TWO people rated me badly for my post above. How is that fair???? What on EARTH does that post have to do with my integrity as a poster and contributor here? You dont like my explanation????? You want to denigrate this into a grade school issue it will very quickly!!!
