Sharing Clothes, Baby Items, Etc.

I wish we could form some sort of thread here for used items the might be able to benefit others.
I bought a hip hammock, spent $41.00 on it, never even used it. I have so many baby toys- you know how fast they grow tired of things, or have newer interests. I have been taking most of our stuff to a consignment shop, but would love for fellow adoptive parents to benefit from this, as well. I'm sure I'd take people up on some of the things they have for sale, as well.
I have ebayed some stuff, but would be cool to have a list in here, so people could buy & sell, borrow, give, etc.
Is that allowed?
Melissa

No, that wouldn't be allowed as it would be considered a form of solicitation.

Thanks!

Hey- thanks for the reply.
I figured it wouldn't go over, so I took a huge SUV full of stuff to Goodwill today.
SOMEONE will benefit from it. :-)
MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Have you thought about donating back to your agency? Many times they can 'redistribute' to either adopting families who get a fast placement, women who choose not to place, and/or to local shelters, organizations they have connections with.

Also, at least here locally we have on Yahoo a Freecycle board where we can post things we want to give away we're not using and a 'Bearly Used' board for children's items free or low cost.

Just an idea...

Cool!

Hey- great idea!
I have been taking my stuff to consignment shops, but they don't give you very much for the stuff, so I'd rather see someone that can benefit from them.
I took most of my stuff to GOODWILL this morning- at least I know someone will get some good use out of it.
I am "late" in becomming a mom, so most of my friends are out of the baby stage, so I really didn't have anyone to give them to.
I was just thinking of fellow forum addicts like myself, since adoption costs are so high, and you only need this stuff for such a little time, etc.
MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Hi Melissa,

We have a new place that opened here that is a foster/adoption resource center. They gather gently used toys/books/clothes/furniture, pretty much anything and, if someone needs anything they are able to go there and pick it up free! When a child comes into foster care for the first time (or anytime really) and they need clothes, etc. their worker can call this place and they put together clothes for them in suitcases. Many kids that come into care carry their belongings in trash bags, they're trying to give these kids dignity. Maybe there is a place like that where you live.

Hope this suggestion helps for your future donations.

BTW: They don't turn anyone away, if someone needs things for their biological children, they are welcome at the center too.

Michelle

Our daughter's b-mom had another baby 21 mo. after A was born. We were able to give her all of our baby stuff and pass down clothes as she has outgrown them. of course her 1/2 sister weighs almost as much as she does and she is only 9 mo. old so I suppose there won't be too many clothes passed down from now on.

hi,

you guys might think about donating to a homeless shelter or to a local women's shelter. When women flee abuse with their children, they often leave with the clothes on their back. as you can imagine, most of this baby stuff is left behind. anyway, check your shelters-they might need some of your stuff.

I agree with Lisa. We gave virtually everything, many never used items, to our local Child Haven for families who needed it and for foster families.

If I am not mistaken, there is a link on the yahoo board for swapping/selling. I have not checked it out but I remember seeing it.
