Anyone travel out of state for baby?
I was wondering if anyone had traveled out of state for their(domestic adoption) baby and if so how long were you required to stay in that state? I ask because my husband would be allowed a week at the most because of his position at work.

We did...
It normally would have taken a week or less for us to get approval to leave the state, however relinquishment was signed the day before the courts and everything else shut down for the Christmas holidays! Fortunately our agency was able to get the judge to sign the relinquishment papers before they closed down...otherwise the judgement wouldn't have been made until the courts opened again after New Years (2 weeks later). However, since everything was closed for the holidays we weren't able to get approval to leave the state until after the holidays. We were there for 3 weeks.

Our son was born in Texas, we live in Virginia. We spent a total of 17 days in Texas waiting for court filings and ICPC.
It's hard to say how long - some only wait a few days for TPRs to be filed and ICPC to clear, others can take up to a month. It depends on the states involved, time to do TPR, ICPC processing time, time of year, etc. In our case things got hung up because the Virginia ICPC caseworker assigned to us went on vacation. Our attorney and agency prevailed on the supervisor to transfer the case so we could get home. HTH Regina

We traveled out of state as well for our son's adoption. We were away for 10 days for ICPC. As said here, it varies from state to state and ICPC offices. Some go quicker, some take longer.

Travel out of state
We are from NH and we traveled to IL for the birth of our baby. I got there the day before the bmom was scheduled to be induced and we were able to leave IL one week after she was born. DH couldn't be gone the whole time so he made 2 trips - one when we discharged Addy from the hospital and he stayed the weekend and one for our court date and the plane ride home. It worked out well. We flew Southwest - they were awesome and very flexible with our tickets. Best of Luck!!!!

We adopted our first daughter out of state and we ended up spending about 3 weeks in PA. It should have not taken that long, but the lawyer in PA was very insufficient and very money hungry, so we ended up spending more time away from our home. I will say it was hard to be away from our family, but it was nice being able to get to know our daughter's mother better and spending time with her and she was able to spend alot of time with her daughter she was placing with us. So, I have to say, God knew what he was doing and he brought us all together even more as a family, for we have a new and extended family as well as a beautiful daughter and we got to spend countless days with them and laugh with them and really get to know them more personally.
I am sure every state is different and it is something your lawyer should be able to answer for you. Don't look at it as a bad thing IF you are away from home, look at it in a postive way for you are getting to know your child's family and they are able to spend alot of time with you and with the child and to me, that is special and will mean alot to my daughter and to her mother. All 3 of our adoptions were different lengths for ICPC. We live in WI. Our first adoption was in MI. ICPC took 1 1/2 days! She was born on a Wednesday night. When she released from the hospital on Friday morning, we had already gotten our verbal clearance!
Our Second daughter was born on a Thursday night in IL. IL requires a 72 hour waiting period before TPR. So we had to wait the weekend. TPR was signed Monday afternoon & by Friday we had ICPC verbal clearance. During that time though we stayed in a hotel right on the boarder of IL & WI, only 1 1/2 hours from home. Hubby & the other kids got to visit us twice during the week. Our son was born in OH. It was a DISASTER! He was born on a Saturday. TPR was done on Wednesday. We were told we'd be there no longer than 2 weeks. Once it got closer to that 2 week mark I began calling the OH sw. She told me to relax because it could & VERY OFTEN does take up to 6 weeks!!!! Well needless to say, I made sure things got done ASAP & we got verbal clearance to leave at 2 weeks. Sometimes the sqeaky wheel really does get the grease! LOL Deb

We WILL
Our soon-to-be-born son will be born in CO, we live in NM, but also work in CO. We live just 4 miles across the border, but have been told by everyone involved "tough luck". We can drive all the way back to about 18 miles from home where a coworker is letting us stay in a studio apt til we get the clearance.
The apt is between work and home, so DH will come by the apt for dinner and a couple of hours of "baby time" and then go home for the night to take care of our furbabies and get a good night sleep for as long as possible. Baby & I will stay at the apt. In CO, we will be signing an "at risk" acknowledgement because the birth parents will have to either go before a judge to relinquish (which could take anywhere between 3 weeks and 3 months) or possibly to an expedited relinquishment which could take about 10 days. We've been told that ICPC could take up to 3 weeks...and our first Christmas as a family is coming up! Kat

We adopted Abby from Las Vegas, NV. She was born Friday night Jan 30th at 11:15. J signed the TPR Tuesday Morning as NV has a 72 hour minimum wait, ICPC was sent to NV office Tuesday, received Wed, sent to TX Thurs, received Friday and was clear by Tx to travel home Friday afternoon. I left first thing Saturday am back to Dallas. I think that I am *very* lucky that it went so quick and that both states work so diligently...I have seen many people wait weeks!! For me though this would have been very hard with a then 3.5 yr old and 6.5 yr old at home waiting for mommy and baby sister!! Hope this helps and best of luck to you!! Also my hubby came with me Saturday am when Abby was born, but had to leave Mon. am to get back home, so I had the week out there by myself although J Abbys birthmom and I visited everyday!! It was a special time for us to bond..
Sincerely,

we traveled
We traveled from Washington to Tennessee for our adoption. WE were told that it could be up to three weeks that we would need to stay there. WE were given the option to take our baby home after two weeks, but the final papers had yet to be signed, and if the birthmom changed her mind we would have to fly the baby back to her. WE were told the Tennessee is one of the worst for waiting time, and that it varies by state. Hope this was helpful.
