Recently Matched -- Anyone familiar with Ohio adoption law?

We have recently been matched, and the baby will be born in Ohio. Has anyone done an Ohio adoption? I would appreciate any feedback regarding the legal aspects especially -- TPR, revocable or irrevocable, etc. We were told that our particular agency does the TPR and consents 72 hours after birth, and they are irrevocable except in the case of bribery coercion, etc. I just want to confirm that and/or find out if there is more we should know. Thanks so much!

Hi Stephanie~

We live in Ohio and that information looks like everything I have read. Remember that Ohio also has a putative father registry for birthfathers. The birthfather has 30 days after the birth of the child to sign-up with the registry. If they fail to do this, the child can be legally adopted.
Here is a link to an Adoption Lawsite. It gives information on the adoption laws and statutes for each state. You have to become a registered user first.

Hope that helps.

Beth
