I can't stand it! DH and I are totally glued to the tv. But we're both starting to stress so much, I think in a few hours we're going to have to turn it off and wait for the "official" news in the morning. I just don't know if I have the heart to hear it!!!!
Hang in there! -S

I'm glued to the TV too.... But I have a big advantage -- it's only 8:45 am here on the other side of the world! I got to sleep while all my compatriots were voting, and get up just in time for poll closings on the east coast. I should be doing something else today though - but I'm soooo nervous.

there are advantages for living on the pacific coast. yep, it's 7:51 and I'm glued to the tv (comedy central and CBS) and airamerica radio. I have to teach tomorrow so it will be an interesting day. I think it will be like it was in 2000 or the weeks after 9/11-not much work will get done as we deconstruct the election results. I figured tomorrow would be shot, so I factored this in on my syllabi:-).
I killed time by scanning in photos of dd and posting them on the board:-). thank god I filled my prilosec prescription, LisaCA

We're in a swing state and I was wanting to go stand with my little sign down at the polls AND fast and pray all day....
I didn't.....stayed home, watched tv ALL DAY and ate.....ate everything in sight.... I did manage a prayer or two...or three! I'm note sure if they'll even know the results tomorrow with Florida losing absentee ballots plus not getting the military's absentee ballots back too....I heard one station say they would give the military ballots the time they needed to return and be counted.... Which I think is definitely fair, especially for them... ![]() Happy Elections everyone!!!! Go *! P.S. Hey Brandy, you can always come over to my house and watch the results--I made homemade granny smith caramel apples!!! Yummy!!!! Anybody else wanna come? ![]() |

The people's voice ...
I have to say that I enjoyed the surprise in one commentator's voice tonight when the polling revealed that the #1 issue that Americans based their vote on was "Values and Morals." You mean it wasn't the economy?! This is what is great about our country ... that the people's voice is heard! Rather than decisions being made for them (us) by television personalities who think they know it all ...

Well, it seems to be coming down to my very own county in Ohio...Cuyahoga. I am still here waiting for the tally - our polls had to stay open later than planned to accomodate the long lines, our turnout was so amazing.
No matter who finally wins, I certainly felt good walking to the polling place this morning - my vote counts and it's good to live in a country where I felt safe and free to walk down the street and make myself heard. I hope we can all support the winner. Whoever he is, he'll need it. Cate

I'll be up late, late, late. We have a number of state-wide elections that are too close to call. This has been a nail-biter this year. I am always interested in the Presidential election, but I get very involved in state politics.
It's really terrific to see so many folks coming out to vote for the first time. This was my oldest daughter's first time to vote in a Presidential election. She's been IMing me all evening. Paige |

Update
My daughter just called me and informed me that she's moving to Canada. First time voter...sore loser. She's going to stay up all night hoping for a miracle. I love it that she's so involved. It's cute. Besides, I told her that at least we'll get great SNL skits over the next four years!

At least it's day time here (Nepal) - but I'm still glued to the TV too. My 15 year old daughter just called from a class trip to find out what happened. She's crushed. We spent our call commiserating, and wondering whether it would be easier to be back in the US next June when our assignment ends here, or keep living overseas where we have to answer daily questions about what the heck Americans are all about and what we are all thinking. That's a nice interpretation....the tone of the questions among even our friends has changed like you wouldn't believe unless you lived here. Before there was some sympathy - that maybe us Americans didn't want a lot of what Bush has brought - I'm guessing this election will dry up that sympathy pretty darn fast. Why does that not make me feel safer? Maybe I should go back to bed, even though it's noon here -- I know I'm not up to trying to explain it all to the many Nepalis would will ask me about it if I go out today -- I can't even explain it to myself. I guess you can count me as a sore loser too, if it goes the way it's looking now....

Cheryl,
The crushing blow for me is the way the rest of the world views Americans. I can't imagine what it must be like to have to answer the questions that come from living in another country. At least in 2000 we had a president that wasn't elected in a popular vote. I'm with you that I think the last vestiges of sympathy for us will dry up. On an off topic note, I've always wanted to visit Nepal. I have a cousin who goes on trecking adventures there every other year. Hang in there. Ohio still hasn't been called for sure. Paige |
