Question finalization dilemma

to make a long story short as possible.... we have had some major issues with our adoption agency lying to us on several occasions esp. when it comes to money. here is the current issue. the agency is stating that we owe them $1200 due immediatly...at first we were told that this fee was waive (lie) then we were told that we could make payments (lie again) now we are being told that they will not submit all the paperwork to the courts until the bill is paid......Can they do this to us? can they hold the adoption finalization based on money and since they are the ultimate guardians (we have temporary custody) can they take him away from us??? we live in massachusettes and our son was also born in massachusettes. he is now 7 months old and has been in our custody since birth. Our agency is also based in massachusettes. Please advise.

I don't know the legalities...

but I would be inclined to PAY the fee, finalize your son's adoption, then seek legal recourse against the agency after the adoption is final and irrevocable.

I know it is alot of money and the agency has given you erroneous information and/or misrepresented themselves. But if the only issue is the agency fee (and NOT any question regarding the legality of the adoption itself) I would pay the amount they are requesting and finalize before rocking the boat.

GOOD LUCK! And Hugs!

Jennifer

I agree with Jennifer. I would find a way to get that $1200 and finalize. We also had a bait and switch money situation, and paid it. It unfortunate that agencies can do such unethical things. We are captive to them and they know it. I would also let others know that you would not recommend this agency.
