Adopting from Canada
Hi,
Does anyone know anything about Canadian adoptions? We are doing open domestic adoption, but I have heard it's possible to adopt from Canada without the huge expense and hassle of other international adoptions (i.e, China, Guatamala, etc). Has anyone adopted from Canada? Thanks. |

Due to the Hague, a Canadian child can only be adopted internationally if no one in Canada is willing to adopt the child. For this reason, it is nearly impossible to adopt a Canadian child, unless you are Canadian.
In the early 1970s and before, it was common for Americans to adopt Canadian children. However, Canada now has less children available for adoption then the US. (Due to lower birth rate, more infertility problems, better social security net, etc.) |

I would expect it would be difficult for a non-Canadian to adopt a healthy Canadian newborn, but if you're open to a child(ren) with special needs it might be worth investigating.
