Question Single Parent Adopting

I am currently looking into adoption from either Russia or Vietnam (if they reopen). I am a teacher and make a comfortable living, however, adoption costs are high. What kind of financial assistance is available besides a home equity loan? I know that there is a tax credit of $10,000 but is there any other financial assistance? I'm putting away every extra penny I get but I want to file my application by May of 2005. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hi! We have a lot in common. I am a single teacher as well. At this point, I too make a comfortable living but can't afford a lot in the way of adoption fees. That is why I chose to foster/adopt through my county. I currently have 2 foster sons, T (6) and C (9). C just came to live with me tonight, actually. I desperately hope to adopt T but there has not yet been any TPR. I've got a while to go before that may happen. C is legally free and I plan to adopt him but need to get to know him better before I decide. He's visited for 1 weekend before this.

Ok, enough about me. To answer your question, I have had a hard time finding any assistance. You may be able to get a personal loan from a bank-that may be 1 option. I have heard that some churches help, too. I don't know if that would be an option for you. I'll be interested to see if anyone has more to add...even if I get both T and C, I'd like to try to adopt a baby next.

Anyway, good luck and God Bless!
Becky

There are foundations out there that will assist you. I adopted 3 kids from Russia-I am a single dad. Look up claar on the internet.

Good luck
