Work at home
My partner and I are about to adopt a newborn and we have decided that he will stay at home to care for the baby. As such he will have to quit his full time job and try to get a work from home part time job to supplement our finances. I would love to hear from people who have gone through this process. What sort of jobs are there out there to work from home. We are afraid that they are so many "work from home" scams, MLMs, etc which we are not interested in. Any resources such as web sites would be greatly appreciated. Any good companies to recommend?
Thanks Chris ![]() |

Hi Chris,
Congratulations on your impending parenthood I have worked from home for the past 5 years and I love it - wouldn't and probably couldn't stand to go back to an office now, after all the autonomy and freedom I have. Anyway, here is a good starting point for learning about types of jobs available, how not to get scammed, links to other resources, etc. I work for a small training design firm in Atlanta (I'm in Ohio), and almost 100% of my work is done through email, FTP, conference calls. I do travel to Atlanta approximately once every 3 months, just to keep in touch with my co-workers. I also travel to client sites to initiate a new project, but usually for just a few days, twice a year. As far as not getting scammed, I think the important things is not to "bite" on jobs that are advertised as "earn $$$ from home" - he wants to find a "real" job that will allow him to work from home, rather than a job built around staying at home, if that makes sense. And as always, if it sounds too good to be true, it definitely is. Good luck with the search! Cate

Hi, Chris. I too, work from home, and absolutely love it. My job gives me the freedom to make my own schedule, work the ammount of hours I want, and to still stay home and care for my two girls. I am in independant contractor, so I am essentially my own boss. My title is officially a "Virtual Service Representative", but basically, I take incoming phone orders from infomercials. Notice I say "incoming"! I am not a telemarketer, as I do not make any outbound calls. People that call are calling to place an order for a specific item. It is not a scam, there is no fee, etc. (I do think they may charge now for a background check, but there is no charge to work for the company).
I'd be happy to tell you more, if you are interested. Feel free to email, PM or IM me anytime. Michelle |

I also do what MichLyn does...I take incoming calls and I am able to sign up for whatever hours I want...I can work a few hours a day, or none at all if I am too busy. It's been interesting so far, and I am still learning, but it's nice to be able to make my own schedule!!

Another idea is to do daycare. You could do full or part time. Since you're already going to be home anyway, this might be work well for you.
