What states require fingerprints for Domestic Adoptoins?

My husband and I have just had our Home Study completed. We had our background and criminal checks done as required for the homestudy. We are looking for an agency or facilatator to work with. Someone just told me that certain states require fingerprints even for domestic adoption, but we were never told about this. We live in PA and they are not required for a PA adoption. What states require fingerprints for domestic adoptions?

In Texas we had to get fingerprinted and then they sent them in to the child abuse registry and criminal background checking dept. Hope this helps, and best wishes on your adoption journey!!

I think that the agency/facilitator that you choose will require them, because you are often likely to be matched outside of your state of residence. We had to have a state print, a national print (for FBI) and a release to check the state child abuse registry. We worked with two agencies; both required the same.

Hmmm...Victoria, we are in Florida and didn't have to have our fingerprints done. We just had to complete the background check for the homestudy.

California requires fingerprints. Actually I'm surprised that they are not a requirement of all states and I think they should be.

Oh, maybe some agency's don't require. I thought is was a state requirement. We had to get ours, and couldn't complete our home study until they were back from FBI.

your prefessional will advise

My understanding is that the "interstate compact on the placement of children" is a law and procedure that is followed to make sure that if laws are different between the state where baby is born and where aparents live the adoption will still hold up. For example, we live in GA and surrenders are revocable for 10 days after signing but our baby will likely be born in IL where they cannot be siged until 72 hours after birth but are irrevocable. My understanding is that your agency or attorney will make sure that the adoption "works" to comply with ICPC. Also, even more similar to your situation, aparents in IL need a foster lisence, but we did not need one living in GA even though the child will be an IL baby (fyi, we did need fingerprints here) This is why I believe if you find a competent professional and you trust them, they will advise you on what is needed in your situation.
