We are having the in home part of our homestudy done Thursday and our worker says our homestudy is almost done and we could identify a child and she will help us. I look on photolistings all the time and recently saw a sibling group of 4 that I am really interested in. We have 2 biological children ages 8 and almost 6 and live in a 4 bedroom house(possible 5). I am a stay at home Mom who loves kids and I have always wanted to make a difference in some kids lives(I was too young to help my neices out of their situation). My question is has anyone else adopted 4 at once? These kids are from foster care. I want a larger family but how hard is it to adjust to that many at once? I just can't seem to get these kids out my thoughts. All but one are school age. Plus we were originally planning on adopting 1-2 kids where the issue of money would not have been an issue but with 4...........do you get a subsidy or does that only apply to special needs kids? I want to continue to stay home with my kids. Has anyone else adopted 4?

We adopted 4 at once and it was wonderful. I would do it again in a second. Subsidies will come with the children and possibly a medicaid card. Go for it!!!!!!!!!!

HI
Some very good friends of ours adopted 4 children all at once. They were siblings. With a lot of prayer and hard work everything has worked out well. The children and our friends are happy. It's been several years now. I think a "blanket" statement can't be made about adoptions like this. The personalities of both the parents and all the children come into play here. What is a wonderful, fulfilling event for some may be completely overwhelming for someone else. Best wishes to you. Snuffie |

Don't they have to be special needs though in order for us to get a subsidy? I hate to have to be concerned about the money part of it but we had not planned on adopting that many and I want to be able to provide well for all of them and still stay home with them. Hubby is supportive of this but does not want to end up having to get a second job when we now live comfortably on what he makes. I am going to call our CW tomorrow and have her inquire about this sibling group. Is it harder to adopt from another state?

I also have one more question: Do you have to be approved for a certain number of kids? How does that work?

4 school age siblings would be special needs adoption. I can't fathom any state that wouldn't classify such a sibling set as special needs and give assistance to the adoptive family.
Heck, most states now automatically qualify sibling sets, over a certain age, or simply available for adoption over a certain timeframe and not in a permenant home as special needs. I know NY classifies a child as special needs regardless of anything else if they have been available for adoption for 6 months or longer and haven't found an adoptive home. I know IL classifies a child as special needs automatically if they are over age 4. Those are just 2 cases in my immediate family. I can't fathom any state not saying 4 school-age siblings weren't special needs. |
