he's here
Chance Elijah came early on 5/7. He was 35 weeks but did well NICU x4 days. We finalized our adoption in Arkansas at 14 days of age. Arkansas is a great state to adopt from even if you live out of state. We are all home now doing well.

In Arkansas the mother has a 10 day revocation period, after the 10 days if you have both parent's TPR--a court day can be set. We had to wait 4 days to get a court date (we were told it took so long because it was criminal week. On the 14th day a 9 am the judge took us in to chambers and signed the final decree for adoption. We were told by our attorney that Arkansas was the only state that you did not have to do interstate compact--because you are coming home with a legally finalized adoption. We didn't go searching for this state as we live in NC but the birthmother was there and it worked out great.
We had a great experience all the way around. We arrived with Chance 11 hour old. The birthmother handed him to us and asked the nurse if we could have a private place to bond. She was great. We all spend a few days together at the park, baby shopping before we left. I used to talk to her everday a few times a day, but since we have been home she has only called twice. She said she was giving us time to bond and be with family. We will forever have her in our prayers. We only agreed to letters and pictures (because I was terrifed of the unknown), but since everything has gone so well-I told her to call anytime and have let it up to her if she decides she may want future visits---right now she says no. It is great to be a mommy |
