Yesterday, my niece, who is 9, and who is familiar with a lot of families that have adopted asked me while I am holding my 23 month old dd, adopted at birth: Did you have to pay for her? I was taken back by this quetion. I answered that we paid fees to the agency and lawyers to file and fill out paper work, but no we didn't actually pay for our daughter. Then she ask, did it cost like a Bzillion dollars, I looked to her mother, my sister in law (for help) and laughed and said it seemed that way, but it was well worth it, don't you think?

Has anyone else been ask this question by a child? IF so how did you answer.

My Mom said I was cheap - $100. It was a buy 2 get 1 free kinda deal.

Sounds like you did a good job to me. You answered her questions, you were honest, and you conveyed to her that you didn't buy a baby.

I have not had the did you buy her question yet.

But, I did have a little four year old ask me the other day why I do not have any milk under my shirt to feed the baby with like her Mommy does.
