Question Mother's Day cards for **

Hi, it has been awhile since I last posted anything! Our son's birth mom contacted us and is now ready to receive updates, letter and phone calls from us regarding our son. We are very happy and would like to honor her this mother's day with a card. But Hallmark doesn't make mother's day cards for birthmom!!! Any suggestions would be welcomed.
God bless....

Funny you should mention this....I just emailed Hallmark today suggesting that they should carry adoption/birthmother/birthfather cards. It seems strange that they don't have any since they are such big advocates of adoption. There are cards available online, but they just don't do it for me. So, I'm going to the scrapbooking store tomorrow to make one.

Well, just a little side note first. Your post has been filtered out because the initials you used to refer to your child's birthmother is also an unflattering body function and therefore those initials are not permitted for referring to bmoms around here.

Second, the Saturday before Mother's Day is Birthmother's Day. Perhaps you would like to honor your child's bmom by doing something special for Birthmother's day, something personal and from your child.

I saw a post somewhere here from a mother who was saying she is planning on giving a keepsake to her child's bmom each year for Birthmother's Day. This year, she is giving her a framed poem and one of the child's pair of baby shoes laced so she can hang them from her car or somewhere else. Honestly, I thought that was the sweetest, most thoughtful thing I have ever heard to honor a birthmother for Birthmother OR Mother's Day.

Hi Nene,

I just wanted to say that although Hallmark does not make birthmother cards, for the last couple of years I have found beautiful Mother's Day cards there that have sentiments that are very appropriate for our daughter's birthmother. I usually look under the "Someone Special" column and that has worked well for me.

Also, we all make mistakes when we first start posting (this is reference to the bmom abbreviation). Don't worry, you'll catch on!

There is a site that sells Birth Mother/Parent cards. Hopefully this won't get edited out if I give the site directly. If it does, please IM me for the site address.
They have some very beautiful cards. I've sent some of them to our children's Birth Moms.

It is very frustrating at the lack of adoption related cards in general (something I feel very strongly about). Hopefully by this time next year, I will have a full line of cards available to choose from. I've teamed up with an old friend who happens to be a designer currently working in the printing industry. I am so excited, but bummed we didn't get this going sooner.

For this year, we'll be making our own card using digital pictures.

Its quite alright. I'm feeling a tad more sensitive to those initials these days but we all live and learn.

Honestly, the more I think about the difference between Mother's Day and Birthmother's Day, the more I like Birthmother's Day. Mother's Day was always SO hard to sit through until I went on to have more children. I actually intentionally avoided church for years on that day. Something about the Sunday that flowers were handed out to all the mother's and I got to walk away empty-handed was too much for me. But, growing up my own father used to hand out flowers to the mother's in his church. Only, he never wanted a birthmother, a grieving mother, nor an infertile woman to feel hurt in church on that day. He handed out flowers to "all mothers, those we can see, those we can't, those who are only in their hearts and those who will someday be."

I guess I got spoiled about that inclusion and didn't realize how hurtful Mother's Day could be. But, until I had a child in my arms again, I hid on Mother's Day. For me, Birthmother's Day would have been much easier emotionally. It would have been a day that those close to the situation would understand and leave me free to hide on Mother's Day. Its a very new concept and I hope it grows.

As for gifts and cards, it is very hard. I had trouble finding adoption announcements, much less cards, when our son came home a few months ago.

This will definetely fill a need. I've had a hard time finding cards for my bioDad and bhalf-sister. They have mentioned the same problem. I do look at the "Someone Special" cards but many times they're overly familiar, as in "all we've shared over the years" etc. The regular cards come across to cold. It would be great to have appropriate cards to choose from.

That is a great quote, and I think I will send it to my bmom with a picture of me and the kids on Birthmother's Day.

Thanks!

Smile I found one!!!

Well, once again I thank each of you for your ideas, thoughts and suggestions! I too pray that Birthmother's Day will take off! I am very surprised Hallmark hasn't run off with the idea.

I did find a card (Someone Special section) that I think suits my son's birthmom. "Mother's Day is for honoring the special women who spend their lives bringing happiness to others." Then it is blank inside so we will have our son do his handprints and send some pictures! It's not too mushy but not cold!

God's blessings....

birthmom cards

There are some beautiful cards at the sight where I just ordered my announcements from. I ordered several of their cards. I already sent one to our BirthParents. I have one for BirthMom Day and I picked another to give to the BDad. Also, they have a great card for the child to give to their Bparents on the child's 1st bday.

check out the miracle of adoption site

I did find one yesterday that was ok. Didn't say enough of what I wanted to expreess so I enclosed a personal note in as well. I also included a poem I wrote. I pasted it here if anyone is interested:

A Mom Because of Her
Written in honor of my daughter’s birthmother
On our first “Mother’s Day”

The joy I feel today is somehow mixed with pain,
A title once hers, now offered up for me to gain.
You see, I became a mother in a not so usual way,
At the loving hands of someone else, I celebrate today.

I am now called Mother, because she made it so;
She sacrificed her role with love, and let her baby go.
Now cards and flowers are mine, and happy wishes too;
Will you remember her as well, or will you have no clue.

She too is still a mother, even on this special day
Though no longer in her arms does her baby lay,
But forever in her heart remains a love so strong and pure
And as I enjoy this day, I remember I’m a mom because of her.

Susan that is beautiful

I came to this site today looking to ask if anyone knew where I could find a card for my daughter's birthmother. That poem you wrote touched me. thank you for that. It really expresses how I feel too, I am not good at writing poetry. I have a favor, could I share that with my dd's Bmom, I will give you credit for writing it? I will not do so until I have permission.
