On Amazon or Tapestry books (a site for all adoption books) there is a book called "A Birthparent's Book of Memories". We bought one for our son's birthmother and she loves it. It is like a scrapbook, with room for pictures and all the things you mentioned, as well as additional info that the birthmother might want to add. It's set up as something for her to work on and give to the child later (it has a lot of pages and info ideas). It somewhat prompts the birthmother with questions like "What it felt like when I was pregnant", "About my Mother", "About my Father", etc. It is nice for the birthmother to be able to share all the information (and she can just omit a page if she doesn't want to answer something) and a great gift for the child.

I agree with the Birthparents book of memorys - we have given one to all three of our childrens birthmothers. And did you know that the person who wrote it is Brenda Romancik (sorry on spelling of last name) who is a birthmom who regularly post on these forums. She has done a wonderful job with this book. I hope that some day each of our childrens birthparents will someday share these books with our children!!

Based on all of these replies, I bought this book and have to say that I was pretty disappointed. I was expecting a book similar to my baby books that I have for my older son and when I received it, it was nothing like that.
I do scrapbooking as a hobby and I have decided that I can make a book that looks just like this one - for allot less money. Feel free to PM me and I can give you more details on why I was disappointed. I know there aren't many books on the market like this one and maybe that is why it seems to be popular. |

I think you miss understood what this book is for and it's meaning --- It's so the Birthmother can fillit out and share it with the child she placed when the become of age so the child will have History, facts and information about how she lived her life before their birth and after their placement. Is it a collection of the things an adoptee might have questions about and need assurence of. This is a valueuable book to an adoptee later in life and to the birthmom (parent) as they journel through the childs life. You can do a baby book for your adopted child that is JUST like your other childrens and that is your life with them but this book is not suposed to be anything like that because it is a totally different relationship. Good luck with scrap booking - hope it all turns out like you want. Heavens Gifts |

I did understand that it was for the birthparents to complete and give it back to the child when they were of age. I was hoping that the book would include the same type of questions for BOTH birthparents to complete not just one. In order to have the same info for both birthparents, I would have to purchase two books. I do think that this is a good book and maybe it's just not what I was looking for. I will be making a similar book for my birthmother but tayloring it more for my needs. Thanks. |
