Hello,
My husband and I are just beginning our research into adoption, and we were wondering if anyone had any good adoption books they could recommend. We are hoping to adopt an infant domestically, and we want to learn all we can before we move forward with an agency or attorney. Thanks! |

I adopted a toddler Internationally and Toddler Adoption: The Weaver's Craft is a good book.
This may come in handy down the road. |

Domestic adoptions seem to have truly embraced Openness.
We read: The open adoption experience Dear Birthmother: (emotional read) Both were educational and inspirational. Good luck!! Have fun. |

Good, basic book
Hi there -
When DH and I were starting out on our adoption journey, we didn't know WHAT kind of adoption we were going to try to do. The first book we read, that was very helpful in figuring out how we wanted to proceed, was called The Complete Adoption Book, second edition, by Laura Beauvais-Godwin and Raymond Godwin. We later read books on transracial adoption and international adoption, but those are downstairs so I don't have the exact titles/authors right at my fingertips. I'd be happy to give them to you if you want them - just let me know. The book I mentioned above was great for us in helping us start to figure out what route we wanted to take. I do recall there are several basic adoption guides available from our nights at Barnes and Noble, scouring the shelves. There are also some good magazine resources as well, and some of them have websites with archived articles that are very informative (I'm thinking of Adoptive Families magazine right now, but there are others too). Hope this is helpful. Good luck to you! Cheers, Heather |

I have also read Toddler Adoption: The Weaver's Craft. It is excellent if you are open to a 1 year old or older. Raising Adopted Children was a good book too--like a handbook. I am now reading Talking With Young Children About Adoption. Out of these three, Raising Adopted Children would probably be most relavant to you at this time. Very eye opening.

I enjoyed d Toddler Adoption: The Weaver's Craft"
And"Adopting A toddler What size shoes does she wear" Both were wonderful. But I dont know much on what age your considering adopting. But they were good books for me.

The Adoption Resource Book by Lois Gilman is a great way to start.
