fingerprints
We are in NC adopting from Arkansas. We went to get our fingerprints done with the cards sent to us by our attorney. We were told there they should have sent us 2 cards for each parent. Is this true? Next he did not fill any of the information in except our driver's license number. Do I need to fill out our address, height, weight, etc before sending in? Next he messed up on the driver's license number and put a white out strip over and rewrote the number, is this still legal?
Thanks for any advice suggestions or comments |

Can't remember for sure how many cards they gave us, I believe it was 2 cards a piece though. They filled in all the info themselves. They also used one of the newer style electronic fingerprint machines. We also live in NC. Good luck with your adoption.

Yes...you do need to complete two sets of prints from my experience. One is for the State and the other is for the FBI. You will need to complete all of the information on the top and it should be fine that the number was whited out and written over but if you feel uncomfortable with it...all you need to do is get another card. They are readily available and easy to obtain at just about anywhere you can get fingerprints taken.

Does anyone know how long it takes for the fingerprinting to come back? We had ours done over three weeks ago and are still waiting for the results. This is the only document we lack for our homestudy. Any info or experience is greatly appreciated.
Thanks! |

The social worker we are going to be using said that it generally takes 2 months for this clearance to come through, and that is generally always the last thing that is needed to complete the homestudy. But I can't tell you from experience because we have chosen to wait until April to start our homestudy.

Ah waiting for fingerprints...it can take forever it seems to get the results back.
While I supervised a unit of licensing workers, we had to wait for fingerprint results before licensing a foster home and we were always in desperate need of foster homes! One of the workers I supervised used to make up songs about the frustration of waiting...She would sing..."Someday my PRINTS will come...." A parody of "Someday my prince will come" from one of the fairy tales. It was hilarious. Anyway...you can expect to wait anywhere from 4 to 8 weeks for the results. It really varies on how many they are processing at the time and there is just no way to predict. Some quicker...some took months. T

Ot depends on how you're having your fingerprints done. Of by ink on cards, it can take awhile. However, if done by having your fingertips scanned on a machine, I believe the results are rather immediate. JJ |

Well, I had my fingerprints done in November and they are still not back. That's the only thing I'm waiting on to fully complete my homestudy AND they were done on the computer. The state prints came back in 2 weeks but the FBI prints have not come in yet.
Just an FYI, my social worker told me that ALL FBI prints are taking a longer period of time to be processed because of homeland security. She said they could take up to 4 months. We were originally told the 8-10 weeks scenario as well, but given the state of the world I guess it will take longer. So, like many of you, I'm still waiting....

Very true...the homeland security issue has effected the wait because more people are being printed.
In my experience, it has not mattered whether inkless cards were used. In Alaska, the state contracted with Inkless fingerprinting and it made no difference as the prints still have to go to the FBI for processing. Hopefully there are or will be quicker ways to get the results. ![]() T
