My husband and I just found a young woman who might want us to adopt her baby. I don't think that we need to go through an agency. What should we do first? Also, we are military and stationed overseas. Does anyone know what state we would need to go through? At this point we are just collecting as much information that we can.
Thanks for any help ![]() |

find an attorney
While you don't need to go thru an agency you will need an attorney. My reccomendation is to find an attorney who specailizes in adoption law. If you go to
http://www.adoptionattorneys.org/ They are listed by state and I would find one in your home state and ask what your best course of action would be. We did an independent adoption and our adoption attorney helped guide us and our birthmother thru what both of us needed to do. |

The expectant mom (she is not a birthmother until she signs consents) needs counseling and seperate representation. What state does she live in?
