Cool I'm new

Hey everyone,

I just wanted to introduce myself because I'm new. My name is Stacy and my husband's name is Stacey as well. I guess I'll just jump right in and tell you all why I'm here. We have known for about 31/2 years that it was going to be very difficult to get pregnant and seeing as we were ready for children now we decided about 1 year ago to start the adoption process as well as keep trying at home. Well everything went really fast through social services and now we have been officially matched with a little girl. We can't wait to meet her and hold her and hug and kiss her!!! We are very excited. Anyway, that's my story, if you have a questions or just wanna chat then I'd love to hear from you.

Stacy

Hi Stacy...

Congratulations and Welcome!

How exciting the you have been matched. Tell us more if you can. How old is she? Does she have any siblings? Will it be an open adoption? How did the children come to be made available for adoption?

This is a great place to find support and help.

I have one daughter that came to us through adoption. She is 27 months old now and we have begun the process to adopt our second child.

Okay that one worked so I will be brave and post a longer one now.

Thanks for all the reply's. I can't believe it, everyone is so friendly. Umm to answer some questions: we probably won't be getting Erin for about 2 more months, it's all in the hands of Social Services. But we will be meeting her within the next 2-3 weeks! So exciting. I am starting to paint her room and everything this weekend. I bought some kids design magazines and am copying some of the ideas out of those.

Okay, we seen her picture and a description on the child website (in alberta canada) and went to talk to our social worker about adopting her. We had never done anything like this so our first meeting with sw was really scary but she was very nice and honest and made us feel a lot better. Two weeks after that first meeting we started our Parent Preparation training course which lasted for 6 weeks. Everyday almost I would go on the website to see if Erin was still there. One day after about 4 weeks of training, her picture was gone and I was sure that she had been matched with another family. I asked sw to look into it and she did and told me that she had been matched but the couple declined and that Erin's sw took her off because there was an overwhelming response for her. Erin's sw told my sw that she had about 6 families interested in Erin but that she would wait until our homestudy was done to make a decision. Great news to us. We finished our training and the next week our sw came to our house to do our home study. Then came the long wait. We waited for about 3 months for her to finalize everything and the day we were leaving on holidays she sent it to Erin's sw.

When we were on holidays our sw called us to say that erin's sw was interested in us but that she had a few more things to finalize and that they wouldn't be done right away because she was going on holidays for two weeks. We were excited, at least she was interested right, and whats two week? Well two weeks turned into two months because when erin's sw came back our's went away on holidays for 3 weeks. Then it took another two weeks after that to hear the word. I was at work and having a very bad day and not thinking that any news was going to come. After all I had been jumping every time the phone rang for the past week. Anyway the phone rings and I hang up on the other line and it's sw telling me that we have been offically matched with Erin and that things were going to start of slow and then go very quickly. I don't think we talked long cause I was so excited I had to phone my husband.

And that's it, beggining to end. Well not end yet I guess, we still don't have her at home, but soon!

Stacy

Stacy,
What an exciting story! It's so much fun to hear all the stories of how we all became families.
We adopted a 7 month old boy from the county and just got the approval to update our homestudy so we can start adoption number two. We are looking at a sibling group this time. Two, maybe even three. We have three bio daughters, our adopted son and who knows what lies ahead for us.......the waiting is agonizing! But so much fun, too!
Good luck with your new daughter. Does she have siblings?
Keep us all posted on your progress!
Liz

Hi All,

Just wanted to say hi and I hope you all had a wonderful weekend. I started painting Erin's room this weekend and it's turning out to be a bigger job then I thought. I'm painting it Yellow (soft buttery color) with some sage green trim but I'm painting over wall board and getting in the little grooves is a royal pain in the you know what! lol

Anyway, more about Erin, she has 4 brothers that she has minimul contact with, mostly letters anc cards but she has seen them a few times. Her brothers are all in adoptive homes 2 in one and 2 in another. We will definitley keep up contact with her brothers. Don't know much else yet as we haven't met with her social worker yet and ours can only tell us so much as she doesn't know everything. Hopefully we'll meet her in the next 2-3 weeks, keep your fingers crossed.

Anyway, better go to work.

Have a great day everyone.

Stacy
