I was waiting for my daughter in the dentist office and reading and I came across this idea. It was a suggestion on how to deal with questions of others when your adopted children do not look like you and it is obvious they are adopted.
One mom said that when others ask is she adopted she always answers, yes WE are adopted. I don't know why but I just liked that way that sounds and I plan to start using it. Another mom said that when her older children begin to get uncomfortable with a stangers questions they came up with a pass word that the child uses to signal that he has had enough of the nosey questions. Theirs is "SPIKE!". He says it and then the mom quickly takes control of the sitaution, changes the subject or excuses them. Just wanted to share this idea with everyone. I thought they were great . ![]() Last edited by Judilyn : 08-31-2003 at 04:06 PM. |

We were told early in our eduacation classes to never say, she is adopted or he is adopted. That using the words that way put's the emphsis on the child, as if the child is different.
They stressed to use the words, she came to us through adoption or our family grew through adoption. Just thought I'd share that with you.
