Unhappy health history

How important is the health history of the adoptive parents? My husband is a juvenile diabetic, though he has past all physicals with flying colors and just got a clean bill of health from his last stress test. I am on medication for depression and anxiety. Will either of these facts pose a problem when we are trying to adopt?

Thanks for any insight or info

I don't know about domestic or internation adoption, but with state adoption it is not usually an issue. As long as you show that they are being addressed and the dr fills out the physical form showing that you are capable of taking care of the child then you should be fine. Heck when I went in everything was fine until they did the TB test. Guess who tested positive, me. So then I had to have xrays and then the dr signed off and said I was fine. No one even blinked. In many casees they look at the positive side of it and figure this way you will know how to deal with certain issues.

I am also a Type 1 diabetic. We have successfully adopted two girls. Our agency was fine with all of my medical history as long as my diabetes was under control. I was really worried both of our bmoms would be a little nervous when they found out why I could have a child, but they didn't seem to mind a bit. We are now looking into international adoption, so I hope my medical history does not pose a problem. Good luck!

Thumbs up

What they are most concerned with is whether you should live for an average life span. In the case of diabetics, as long as they are stable on insulin, have overall good health, and a reasonable expectation that they will live a normal life span, there should be no problem in domestic parental placement.

Good luck,

Regina

Unhappy on health history

My husband and I just sent all of our paperwork to our agency. We are also worried about our health. His blood count was abnormal, but his liver and kidney functions were normal and his cholesterol was low in bad and good, The Dr. stated I have high blood pressure & I'm on medication for anxiety and mild epilepsy. Our health was checked out as good by our Dr. and we both have a good life expectancy. However, I am still very worried because we don't have the very best health we can have. Can anyone give us advice who's been through this or worried about their health like we were? We are trying to eat better and exercise like the Dr. suggested.
