The something missing

I know the feeling!!! I am 27 and in the same boat. I want to give you one piece of advice. Know the laws and your rights. You have heard that knowledge is the key!! It truely is because when you are knowledgable then you don't get scammed the way that I did. So 1500.00 later I am a little brighter and a LOT wiser.
I wish you the best

PS just know that adoption is a long and winding road that often leads to a complete family

Hi sweetlady, I live in a small town in Ky too my advice would be research. Hunt for everything you can find on adoption. One person recomended that I get the book Adoption for Dummies. It was very helpful.

To get started.

I would say before you try and get started.
Start reading,
From what I have seen it's best to know this stuff inside and out before you even start the procces.

If you like I can recomend some web sites I have found with alot of helpful info on them.

I havnt adopted a child yet but I'm reading all the info and finding what i can for when the time comes that I can start it all
I'm ready for anything that comes my way.

Anyways if ya want site address contact me and i'll send them your way.
Thanks
take care and may God bless.

I'm not sure from your posting how you're planning on pursuing adoption - via international, domestic parental placement or foster care/waiting child adoption. If you're considering domestic parental placement adoption, good books to read are:

The Open Adoption Experience by Lois Molina
Adopting in America: How to Adopt Within One Year by Randall Hicks
Dear Birthmother by Kathleen Silber
Adoption Without Fear by James Gritter

You may find most if not all of these books available at your local library as well as in bookstores and online to purchase.

A good (I've heard) book on international adoption is:

How to Adopt Internationally: A Guide for Agency-Directed and Independent Adoptions (2000 Edition) by Jean Nelson-Erichsen.

A good magazine to subscribe to (may also be available at your library) is Adoptive Families. Gives a good balance of experiences from all types of adoption.

Hope this helps,
