Newspaper article about foster kids
There's an article in today's Newsday that states that more of an effort is now being made to place foster kids with relatives. The agencies save money this way. The problem with this is blood doesn't always mean in the best interests of the child. My 2 youngest were with paternal relatives at one point. The bio mom was talked about and the kids had this "cold" attitude about her as a result. Meanwhile, bio dad had them and something stupid that got him incarcerated for most of his life. I know about saving money but it's not always in the best interest of the child.

I agree with you that blood isn't always in the best interest of the child especially if other family members are abusing drugs and ACS/ DCFS just doesnt know it!

And that is what should be making you have an outcry. Why do they save money? Are the relatives wealthier than unrelated fps or adoptive resources? Are the children less in need of or less deserving of services and support for their special needs? Of course not. This practice is called "dumping" and it is deplorable. Protest that, please. |
