I know there are some experienced people who work with AA hair on this forum and I decided to come to you for some guidance.

We have a couple BR girls... I have learned a lot about working with their hair, but I'm running into issues with the products I use. Everything I use is specifically for AA hair.

Right now, we're using "Motions" shampoo, conditioner and mousse, but since the mousse doesn't really hold their hair in place very good, I also use a gel called "Smooth 'n Shine". (It's not "Motions" brand.)

The gel reacts to the lotion or something and turns gritty in their hair. I hate the feel and look of that, so I need advice on exactly what products you use that work well together and hold the hair in place.

This has been a steep learning curve for me, since mine and my children's hair is mostly straight and very fine. I've been willing to learn and have been learning a lot about grooming and caring for it. Mostly my problems are in finding the products that go well together and keep their hair healthy and neat.

Hi! I understand your dilemma . The thing about AA hair is that it comes in so many varieties and textures. I could suggest MANY products to you (I have been in the hair industry for 20 years) But it would only be in ignorance without knowing if the hair is coarse, dry oily etc. Here is the best online tip. Look for an AA woman that has well groomed HEALTHY hair then ask for a reference about her cosmetologist (hair stylist) take your girls in for a consultation. Maybe a good shampoo conditioning and endtrimming then ask the STYLIST to suggest the best product for each individual hair type. If finance is a problem take them into a Cosmetology scholl and ask a TEACHER to give their hair a look and give you product suggestions.Or just do some research look for the best hair salon in town ( specializing in BLACK HAIR CARE and go in for a consultation and or service. I hope this helps! You will be glad you did without the proper products and hair care our hair is in jeopardy of being damaged and lost.

We have had good luck with the Mixed Chicks line of products. We had trouble initially with our fd's hair (full AA) when she first came to us 3.5 months ago. One of her teachers recommended these products and the difference in just a couple of uses was amazing.

Thanks for the tip. I just looked at their site and I think I will be ordering some for my FD. I have tried so many products and they all seem to be sticky and heavy. Mixed Chicks looks like it might be the thing that I've been looking for.
