Has anyone heard of a case of child abuse within their community or neighborhood? Friday, reading the newspaper, was such a case. Literally 3 blocks from me, there was a mother, daughter and daughter's boyfriend. Daughter had a young son and boyfriend had custody of 2 nieces. All kids were abused!! Then Saturday, a case was reported in a town about 40 minutes from me. There were 7 adults and an undetermined number of abused kids. Following that article, there was an article about child abuse being up in the county where I live!!

...but in my own family.Two months ago my 2 year old great great niece was killed by her caregiver.I had not heard from my niece her mother in years although we live only 20 minutes away.
She called me devastated and to this day it is not known who actually killed her.She was beautiful. My brother's great grand daughter.
Because of this I am more anxious to be a positive advocate for children.I never met my niece but I will do my best to make sure another child never has to go through what she did.
I live in a small town but you never know,I guess it can and does happen everywhere but I have not heard of it here.......yet

I was abused as a child and I turned my father in. I had a friend whose father had been arrested not long before and I mentioned to her what was happeneing to me. When my father was arrested the notice in the local paper was a full collumn of print. I think when victims see that someone else has or is going through the same horrible things they are more likely to come forward. Being abused is an incredibly lonely feeling.
