Pre-Adopt Placement/announcement

We are thinking of sending out an e-mail announcement with a photo attached announcing the kiddo who will be joining our family. It will be an adoptive placement.

TPR has occured a long time ago and we would send out the announcement after visitations have been successful and the kiddo has transitioned into our home.

Although we have thought of waiting until the adoption is finalized we know that this kiddo should be introduced to family who live both near and far so everyone knows and can share in the joy. I come from a huge family and would like to be able to introduce him to family who live in other states rather than have them hear of the news second-hand.

I also have thought of asking family to send current pictures so we can put a little photo album/scrapbook together that would show everyone and their relationship . . aunts, uncles, cousins, grandparents, great-grandparents, etc.

Has anyone else done anything like this . . .Please share your thoughts and suggestions

If it were me, I would probably keep it low-key in an effort to avoid a response that might overwhelm him. Congratulations on your new addition!

We sent out formal announcements of our upcoming adoption to keep family posted on our new addition. So I would send if I were you. This allowed us to introduce our son to extended family that we don't see on a regular basis. Now, when we do see them it's not a surprise. We also included our blog link so anyone could follow our progress. I have a copy of the announcement on my blog, September 2007 if you want to look at it.

Congrats to you!!!

I would send the email. That would be quietly informative and then when extended family members see the new child, it won't be a surprise.

It would be very nice to have a current photo album of relatives. Imagine being the newly adopted child and having to meet everyone! I think it would help tremendously to introduce family to him/her, so that when meeting in person for the first time, the child would have some sort of idea who everyone is already.
