Thumbs up re-locating

hi, myself, wife and 4 sons aged 7,14,19 and 21 are hoping for a move to canada in the near future and would appreciate any info on the set-up over there. we live in renfrew, scotland. i am a class 1 truck driver based in london and my wife and i have been foster carers for the last 8 years, a job in which we love. we don't know as yet which area we would be liveing in because first and foremost i would have to secure a fulltime job. could we apply to foster before we came over ? how long would we have to wait to be cleared ? would we have to be living in the country a certain length of time before we were allowed ? would we be allowed ? reading some of the forum your rules and regs seem similar yo ours over here. many thanks, jim

Jim,

I know nothing related to foster care but I can tell you...choose British Columbia. I have lived here almost 30 years and have traveled as far east as Quebec...BC beats every other province hands down in both scenery and weather.

Weather: moderate, summer time highs to 35 Celcius but generally in the 20 - 30 C. Winter has different cycles and this year saw lots of snow but still nothing compared to back east. We started mowing the lawn at the end of March this year, other years in February.

Economy: seems to be weathering the global recession much better than most. Hubby has class 1 and although it was slow at the beginning of the year has picked up since. Plus BC is a major stop for container traffic and they are building more ports.

Plus BC has the Whistler/Blackcomb plus many other excellent ski slopes, beautiful beaches, lots of culture/activities and the best hockey team going (Canucks in the playoffs). I think you will also find it is similar to Scotland without quite as much rain or perhaps as many rainy days would be a better way to say it.

Kind regards,
Dickons
