Adoption Shower

We are adopting a three and five year old. Our church is going to throw us an adoption shower. My question is, do I have the kids with me at the shower or how have some of you done this?

personally i wouldnt have the kiddos with me...it might be too overwhelming...like when you have a 2 year old at chuck e cheese and by the end of it they are kicking and screaming and having no fun

Have fun with your friends for your shower

My daughter was 8 and nothing would do ANYONE but she be there. I was terrified the whole time. Not only were we all still kinda shellshocked from her placement, I hated being in the spotlight.

I did go well and I hope that whatever you do, it will be great.

We had our showers without the kids and I preferred it that way. I think my kids would have been totally overwhelmed by all that attention on them and all the gifts. Personally, I view showers as an event for the parents and not the kids eventhough the gifts are centered mostly on the kids. (I think babies at baby showers are a different matter than older kids)

However...you know your kids best and if you want this to be a family event, then go for it!

Jumping over from RU board.

All 3 Showers we were thrown, waited until we were home and to bring our Sons.

It worked out fine. Everyone wanted to hold them and fed them baby snacks. When it came nap time, we laid out the seats in the stroller and off to zzz-land they went.

Good Luck.

Our Church gave us a shower when we adopted our 1st daughter, and we did take our AD to the shower!!

We are about to adopt our other 3 lil girls(5 years after adopting our 1st), but this time we would turn down a shower (we don't need a thing)! We are going to have a big adoption celebration (with no gifts please on the invitations)to celebrate the adoption, and to also thank our friends and family for there support during all of this!!
