OK.....here is what I found out. I spoke with a senator's intern yesterday and today. Here is what he emailed me:
Sorry that it has taken me so long to get this to you. As I mentioned yesterday the bill was amended in the Tax and Fiscal Policy committee and passed out of this committee. It will now go to the Senate floor to be voted upon for a Second reading. If it passes the Second reading, then it will have to be read and voted upon by the entire Senate again, which is called Third reading. The amendments that passed in committee do not affect the particular part of the bill that you are most interested in. I hope this helps and again, I’m sorry that it took so long for me to get back to you. There is no opportunity for the "public" to speak anymore regarding this bill. I will hopefully get a personal phone call from my senator regarding this bill. Hope this info. helps you all. Christina |

Hi. Below is an update that I requested from the Governor's office. I have not read the updated documents - but - I thought I would pass this along to all of you.
Please let me know what you think. Christina This bill was passed by both houses with many amendments. It was then signed by the Governor and became law on 3/24/06. As far as what was amended and the overall language of the final bill, trying to explain this would take many, many pages. The only thing that I would suggest is that you click on the link I provided for you down below. I know the language of these documents can be pretty confusing, but hopefully you can decipher enough of it to get the specifics that you desire. Here is the link: http://www.in.gov/apps/lsa/session/billwatch/billinfo?year=2006&session=1&request=getBill&docno =1001 |

This is the response that I received from the govenor's office this morning:
Christina: I couldn’t remember, but I thought you might be the one that was interested in this subject. I did look into it and that language was taken out of the bill all together. I don’t know if this is good or bad for your interests, but if it was a language that you would have like to have seen passed then there is still a possibility that it was put into another bill. If that is the case, let me know and I will dig a little further. If it was something that you didn’t want, then it looks as if all is well. I have emailed this VERY nice man back and told him that I would be interested in finding out where this language is. I will keep you posted. Christina |

Well, I am upset about the response (see below) that I received from the governor's office. So.....I guess it's not going to be included in any other bill. However, the young man that has been giving me the info. is wonderful!!!! I mean - he was very fast with his responses!!
Christina Christina: Unfortunately, this language was not put in any other bill. I’m sorry. I hope I have been able to help you though. |
