Educational Rights

We were appointed educational guardians for our 5 month old foster son. i received the paperwork today and it has our address. My question is do my FS bio parents get a copy of this? Just a little weary of them having our address

I would ask the sw. Your address and phone number are confidential unless you want to share it.

Not true. It varies by place with many places it being shared by default (most people would assume the opposite). If you are concerned or want your address to be confidential you should talk with your SW.

This topic has been discussed many many times on this forum.

Yes, often the parent will get a full copy of the report. My former foster daugther's mom got a copy of everything, she had our address right from the beginning of their placement.

She never tried to come see them or even send them a letter.

While I understand you hesitation, this child is still legally HER child, shouldn't she have a right to know where her child lives? If it were me, I'd have a bit more peace at least knowing.

I wouldn't let it freak you out too much.

The court did that so that we can request developmental evaluations as needed.

Actually, when a child is in CPS custody, the child is NOT legally the parents. The child is LEGALLY a ward of the state. The state has legal custody. AND I do NOT want my current FD's parents to know where I live. We've been told repeatedly, by many different people, that the dad is, basically, armed and dangerous and could harm us, and the mom tells dad everything. So, I think, it really varies based on the situation and location.

I'm sorry but this is incorrect. Until TPR the parents DO have legal rights and that may include having access to all of the children's records. They may not have physical custody of the child but legally they are still the parents.

As for the bios knowing where you live, I can hear your concern. For the vast majority of situations and placements FPs are not at risk from bios but when there is a concern that they may be it is certainly reasonable to request that your location be confidential. My point was that you should never assume that it is because in many places it is not unless it is specifically requested that the FP's address not be disclosed.

The parents don't have right of placement but they do retain parental rights until they are terminated. Many FPs have visits in their home. It will be ok.
