"supervised CPS visitation", children murdered. Have you seen this?

The Mom that went missing a couple of years ago-Susan Powell, her husband killed himself and their two children yesterday at a supervised visit with a CPS worker. I was just reading this sorty on Yahoo.
So sad.

It wasn't a CPS worker, it was a visitation worker.

IMO the guy needs to burn in hell.

Yep, happened in my state and is all over the news.

Scares me to death because we are all worried our boys' bio mom is going to do something similar. I guess the state is under fire now for even allowing in home visits like this. That is what is happening in our case too. In home visits with pending mental evals. If they think a person is crazy, why do visits in home? Makes no sense to me. Aren't we supposed to be keeping these kids safe?

This story makes me sick....

I'm not defending Josh Powell and his heinous actions, but we need to bear in mind that the reason he was having supervised visitation with the children wasn't because of *his* actions, necessarily. Yes, he's been a person of interest in Susan's disappearance but they haven't had enough evidence to charge him. The reason the children were removed from his custody was because he was living in his parents' home and his father (the children's grandfather) was charged with possessing child pornography. Was Josh involved in that? Maybe, maybe not. But obviously CPS had enough of a reason to remove the children but not enough to keep him from seeing his children. The best they could do in that situation was to have him supervised. When the CPS worker (and the news identified the person as a "CPS worker") brought the children to the home, Josh barred that person from entering the house. I do not hold CPS responsible for that. Josh intentionally murdered those children and would have found a way to do so no matter what CPS or the State of Washington did or didn't do.

Thank goodness that he did lock her out. She must feel terrible, but so glad to be alive. Every once in a while I read about a social worker getting killed when they make a visit to someone's home. Very scary! Poor kids, I don't understand why so many parents kill their children when they commit suicide, I suppose they think the children cannot live without the parent. All so sad and horrible.

Yes I agree, horrific. But I think he killed the kids because they were "his" and he was taking them with him. Sick and sad. At least it makes it pretty clear what happened to his wife.

From what I read, there was child pornography on a computer belonging to Josh Powell. Why wasn't visitation done a a DSS/DYFS office?

I did see that and it's horrible. When I heard supervised visit I could not figure out how that was supervised? How could he take the kids without a supervisor when it was a court ordered supervised visit. I'm a little confused... I read your post about the CW not being allowed in but how were the kids allowed in if she was not. It's good that she was not inside or she would have died too. Maybe this will change the policy on supervised visits and now they will not ever be allowed in the home again.

My understanding was they drove up, and got out of the car. The kids were excited and ran in the house ahead of the visit supervisor. He locked the door behind them as soon as they went inside.

This isn't uncommon in our area. They say it's because you can get a better feel for things in the home environment than the office.

We've been told they have to do visits in the "least restrictive" environment possible.

Yep, my FS was doing in home visits with his biomom, who hadn't done a psyche eval yet, with just a visit supervisor (not a CW/SW). They even know mom is borderline mr/dd who is on SSI for mental health disability. My CW even allowed unsupervised overnight and was prepared to send him home! He still is.....and when he did his monthly home visit, he told me he STILL hadn't seen the psyche eval yet.

And they wonder how these kids end up in danger like this!??

How very tragic. Having lost a niece to DV, I have no sympathy for these men and he needs to rot in Hell, if there is one. No, he meeds something worse than that, he took the lives of two angels with him.

Maybe this will shed some light on how screwy the system is. Nancy Grace is yelling up and down demanding answers on why there was supervised visitation at the home.

Because the system doesn't do a great job of protecting kids because they are too worried about the parents rights. And everyone is shocked that the kids had recently revealed details. I don't think one foster parent on Herr would be shocked that details came out months after kids lived in a safe, stable home.

Senseless.
